Financial Programs for Teens April is Financial Literacy Month. This is a great time to talk to teens about money management. We have several online programs designed for teens or adults interested in learning the basics about managing your money: We will discuss what financial institutions are, the different types, and what products, services, and tools they provide to help you manage your money. We will discuss what a credit score is, why credit matters, how to build good credit, and what to look for to protect your credit. We will also discuss how to manage your money, set goals, and make good decisions to build a strong foundation for your future financial health. In addition, for teens heading to college, we invite you to Paying for College with Scholarships on April 28 at 5 p.m. Our presenter will demystify the complex networks and application processes related to scholarships and introduce an approach towards navigating merit and community-based scholarships.

Upcoming Gardening Programs Get help with gardening during some of our upcoming programs happening in April. Basic requirements of popular annual and perennial herbs will be covered including herb varieties, planting, care, and pests. Learn about digging techniques, determining which amendments and fertilizers are needed, lab soil tests, and using cover crops and mulches. Common soil-dwelling pests and diseases will also be discussed. Learn how to create your own natural fertilizer from kitchen scraps. Take home your very own worm bin (while supplies last). Registration encouraged to gauge interest and walk-ins welcome. Our librarians have created this booklist that complement our upcoming programs.

Important Announcement: Several Databases Leaving the LibraryThe library is doing some spring cleaning, and this means saying goodbye to a few online resources. Bay Area Consumer’s Checkbook and Magzter World Languages will be leaving the library website on Friday, April 24 as they do not meet the Federal standards for web content accessibility. Looking for an alternative to Consumer Checkbook? For international magazines and newspapers, try PressReader, which provides magazines and newspapers from countries around the world, including publications in over 60 languages. Flipster is a good resource for popular magazines in English.
