Thank You to All of Our Veterans!

Wednesday is Veterans Day, a time when we recognize and give our thanks to all of the men and women who have served in our armed forces.

It began in 1919 as Armistice Day, on the first anniversary of the end of World War I. The holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 and has evolved into a time to honor all those who have served the U.S. in military conflicts.

Our website offers a number of resources for veterans, such as VetNow, which helps with standardized test prep, tutoring, and resume resources for veterans transitioning to civilian life.

Explore our online catalog for many nonfiction titles about military history, or check out a booklist about historical military fiction. Our free video streaming service, Kanopy, also has a large collection of documentaries and films about previous wars and conflicts.

Our libraries will be closed on Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day, but will resume services on Thursday if you want to visit our Lobby service or contact us by phone, chat or email.

To all Veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifice.

KIDS AND FAMILIES
Celebrate Diwali Virtually
The major religious festival Diwali, also known as The Festival of Lights, begins on November 14. We have two special events planned to recognize this major holiday.

Join us tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. to watch a timelapse video of local artist Pooja Virkar creating a rangoli sand drawing at the Cupertino Library courtyard. It’s followed by a sit-down interview with the artist. Virkar will be available for Q&A in the chat section of the video.

On Thursday at 5 p.m., we invite children and their families to a fun craft activity. Our librarians will show you how to create your own rangoli drawing using household items like salt, flour and sidewalk chalk.

Both events will be streamed on Facebook.
Special Live Event: Legends and Myths From Mount Olympus
The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company is back with another special live performance.

Join us on Monday, November 16 for “Legends and Myths from Mount Olympus,” and see whimsical and daring adventures from the ancient civilization by the sea. Learn about popular characters like Icarus and Daedalus, Ceyx and Alcyone, and Perseus and Medusa.

Register for this special event.

TEENS AND ADULTS

November Teen
Book of the Month
Burn by Patrick Ness is the November Teen Book of the Month.

In a world where dragons exist, this book tells the story of a young woman whose father hires a dragon for farm work. But there’s more to this dragon than meets the eye. As you’ll find out, the dragon arrives at the farm because of a prophecy that involves an assassin, a cult of dragon worshippers, two FBI agents, and the young woman herself.

See our other teen books of the month.
Virtual Yoga Sessions
On Tuesdays at 10 a.m., we host Virtual Yoga Sessions with Shobha Prabala. This hour long class will focus on vinyasa yoga, which connects each yoga pose to the next through a series of movements using breath.

Register for tomorrow’s class and see the others classes offered.

Also, we still have spots open in our Wellness: Optimizing Fitness and Resilience workshop on Monday, November 16. Learn strategies on improving flexibility and strength, improve performance, and understand the importance of monitoring your health at home.
