March is Women's History Month
Women’s History Month is a time to honor women’s contributions in American history.

According to the National Women’s History Alliance, this year’s theme is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.” This recognizes women who have devoted their lives and talents to creating art, pursuing truth, and reflecting the human condition. The NWHA encourages people to honor the women who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling, including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts and more.

We have several events surrounding Women’s History Month, including crafts and webinars.

The library’s resources are also available to help celebrate Women’s History Month. Take a look at this curated booklist from our librarians. Find films and documentaries directed by women using our free video streaming service, Kanopy. We also have the works of the women featured in the image above, including Toni Morrison, Maxine Hong Kingston, Gertrude Stein, and Willa Cather.

KIDS AND FAMILIES

Bilingual Storytimes
Being multilingual can be very helpful in today’s global society. According to First 5 California, "The first three years of a child's life are the most critical for speech and language development because the brain is best able to absorb language during this period."

Introduce your child to Spanish or Mandarin by joining us for stories, rhymes, fingerplays and songs at one of our bilingual storytimes. Check out our calendar to see the different storytimes at Los Altos, Morgan Hill and Saratoga Libraries.

Can’t make it online? Check out our online storytimes on our website. Here you can find videos in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. These storytimes have been created for children ages 5 and under. 適用於五歲以下幼童. 适用于五岁以下幼童. Estos cuentos han sido creados para niños menores de 5 años.

Keeping Your Home Safe
Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless and poisonous gas. It is undetectable to the human senses and you may not know that you are being exposed. Accidental CO poisoning is associated with faulty or improperly used appliances such as generators, furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces.

The initial symptoms of low to moderate carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning are similar to the flu but without the fever. The most common symptoms are headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness. For more cold weather safety tips, visit PrepareSCC.org/ColdWeather.
