KIDS AND FAMILIES

Storytime for Kids
According to First 5 California, every time you read or tell stories to babies or young children, you help their brains develop and grow strong. Even if they don’t comprehend what you are saying, your voice helps to boost development. Find some easy ways to incorporate reading into your day.

All of our libraries offer storytimes, whether you have a baby, toddler, preschooler or an older child. Check our calendar to see what will work best for you. There are storytimes on weekdays, weekends, mornings, afternoons and evenings. There are also storytimes in other languages like Spanish, Mandarin and Vietnamese.
History Resources for Kids
Could your child use some help in their history assignments? Or perhaps they are curious about the past and want to discover more. Our Online Library has a special section of digital history resources for students.

Explore Scholastic Go! for comprehensive nonfiction content that includes encyclopedia databases Amazing Animals, America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples, and The New Book of Popular Science.

National Geographic Kids offers facts about science, nature, archaeology, and space.

Gale in Context World History provides an overview of world history covering the most studied events, cultures, civilizations, religions, people, and more.

TEENS AND ADULTS

January Teen Book of the Month
Can’t wait for the second season of  Wednesday? The Teen Book of the Month, Don’t Let the Forest In by C.G. Wells, has the macabre private school setting, teens that may or may not be in love with each other, and monsters to fight during the night.

Thomas is an artist who can’t stop drawing, usually of haunting and ominous monsters. Andrew writes snippets of tortured princes to match. But they realize that Thomas’ creations are coming to life. They can’t tell anybody, not even Andrew’s twin sister Dove, due to suspicions of murder and wild rumors. Andrew and Thomas resolve to destroy the monsters every night, to the detriment of their physical and mental health. Put a hold on the book here.

Check out the other Teen Picks of the Month.

Storybook SCCLD Installation at Saratoga Library
We are excited to start the installation of our new Storybook SCCLD play spaces in our libraries!

Each library’s play space is a magical environment that will reflect something special about the community. These play spaces will get children motivated and enthusiastic about learning through play, and will feature different types of play with early literacy skill building. Play can also help with social skills, enabling children to better listen, pay attention and solve problems.

The first play space will be installed at Saratoga Library, starting on January 20. Play spaces will be installed on a staggered schedule through the summer. To keep patrons safe during the installation at each library location, most of the children’s area will be closed to the public. Children’s materials will be made available in other parts of the library.

Please visit the Storybook SCCLD webpage to see the play space installation schedule for your library.
