Our program this year offers something for every reader, whether they are adults, teens, or children. Join us for events including special performances, book clubs, and more. Check our calendar here. It’s free and fun for all ages!

Explore Our Storybook SCCLD Play Spaces!
Let’s go on a trip this summer and enjoy such sites as the Redwood Romp, Trusty Trails, Earthen Excursion and Railway Rollick. You won’t have to go far –these attractions are in our libraries!

This summer, we invite you to check out Saratoga, Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Milpitas Libraries and enjoy their interactive children’s play spaces.

These early learning play spaces invite kids ages 0-10 to practice different types of play that will help them develop skills they need to be successful learners. Kids can test out their balance skills and go down a slide. Both activities help them control body movement, which is important for developing coordination, eye tracking, and focus, promoting active play. Our interactive stations offer imaginative and interactive play, developing storytelling and cooperation skills. Babies and toddlers have their own area for sensory play with opportunities for developing fine motor skills. There are also reading nooks to relax and enjoy quiet play. Throughout each space, there are literacy activities to promote reading and learning.

The early learning play spaces at Cupertino, Los Altos and Campbell Libraries are coming this fall. Stay up to date with construction updates here.

TEENS AND ADULTS

Happy Birthday, America!
The United States will turn 249 years old on Friday, July 4.  It was on that day when the Declaration of Independence declared the American colonies free and independent states. Learn more in this blog. Here you can also explore the history of Independence Day and search U.S. military records.

The library can help you celebrate the holiday. Find a number of grilling cookbooks at the library, or try our online cooking resource, New York Times Cooking. Discover hundreds of videos on Creativebug that can help you create the perfect festive atmosphere.

Our libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Friday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Our Online Library is open 24/7 with eBooks, audiobooks, streaming movies and music to enjoy anytime: https://sccld.org/online-library

Online Resource Retiring
We want to let patrons know that our eBook service, cloudLibrary, will be retired on Tuesday, July 1.

Patrons who have items on loan or on hold through cloudLibrary will lose access to the titles as of July 1. All titles currently available through cloudLibrary are being migrated to OverDrive. You can check out or place a hold through the Libby app to access eBooks. Our Online Library also offers Hoopla, which allows patrons to download eBooks, audiobooks, comics, movies, music and TV instantly.

If patrons need assistance, there are video tutorials available to help navigate these resources.

Celebrate the 4th of July Safely
According to the Santa Clara County Fire Department, the safest and most effective way to prevent fireworks-related injuries is to leave all fireworks displays to trained professionals and attend an outdoor public display if available.
