KIDS AND FAMILIES

Los Altos Children's Early Learning Play Space Update
Installation of the early learning children’s space at Los Altos Library begins on Monday, October 19.

During this time, the children’s room will be closed temporarily. Children’s materials will be available, with a brand-new collection of popular children's books. Patrons can place a hold on any item in our collection and pick it up at their preferred library. Librarians are available to assist patrons at the reference desk in the main part of the library. The rest of Los Altos Library will remain open during construction, plus the Woodland Library is available seven days a week.

The Los Altos Library children’s space, called Orchard Outing, will be an educational, interactive environment where children ages 0-10 and their caregivers will be motivated and enthusiastic about learning through different types of play. This space fosters a passion for books and reading while providing valuable early literacy experiences that support grade level reading proficiency.

Celebrating Our Friends Groups
National Friends of the Libraries Week is underway through Saturday, October 24.

We would like to recognize our library support groups with a big THANK YOU! This includes the Friends of the Library, Library Endowment, Library Foundations, North County Library Authority, Library Commissions, and our Joint Powers Authority Board. We recognize their hard work, dedication and time spent supporting our libraries.

Each of our libraries’ Friends group is independently operated to help support the local library through fundraising, volunteering, and awareness. Friends of the Library groups also host used book sales, with proceeds supporting library services. See the schedule of book sales here.

If you’d like to take a more active role in supporting your local library, we encourage you to consider joining one of these groups. Learn more on our website.

Imagination Library Milestone
October marked the one-year anniversary of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Santa Clara County.

In that one year, more than 175,000 FREE books were mailed to local children ages 0-5. As of the end of September, more than 23,000 children were registered in the program — meaning more than 25% of eligible children in the county are now receiving books every month!

Celebrate with us by registering your child today or sharing the program with families who may benefit. Learn more or sign up at https://sccld.org/imaginationlibrary/
