2025

We have lots going on this month!

Two University Students Talking in the Library
Girl with a Pink Shirt Reading a Blue Book in the Fort

Join us for the Community Health Fair on Saturday, August 2nd from 10AM to 1PM at the Main Library, 4001 N. 23rd Street. This free, family-friendly event features a wide variety of health screenings, including blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI, dental, visual, and liver scans (fasting required for liver scans; first-come, first-served). Explore community health resources and meet professionals who are here to help you take charge of your well-being. Featured partners include the Vitalant Blood Mobile, offering whole blood and Power Red donations—each potentially saving up to three lives—and the VA Mobile Unit, which will provide health services and benefits assistance to veterans and their families.

The Children’s Department will host engaging activities for young attendees, including a self-guided Health Fair Scavenger Hunt where kids can explore the library, complete health-themed tasks, and discover great books along the way. From 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the Children’s Storytime Room, teens can join Just Dance for Teens, an exciting, high-energy program using the Nintendo Switch. No experience is needed—just bring your best moves and a willingness to have fun! This active gaming session encourages movement, coordination, and social connection, with players rotating each song so everyone gets a chance to participate and cheer each other on.

I hope to see you and your family at this special event that encourages healthy practices for all ages!

What do you enjoy most about being on the Library Advisory Board?

Learning about all the events they have for the community and family and also helping with some of the events.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can juggle (only 3 items at a time though, and nothing crazy like knives or chainsaws, etc). I also used to make balloon animals as a child with a book I got from a book fair in elementary. The other day I found it at my parents house and started looking at it for when we are at events where children are to help make them balloon animals.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don't take it personal, This too Shall Pass,  and Never give up.

Who has made a positive difference in your life recently?

My family are the biggest positive difference in my life. Other than my family my medical assistant has significantly impacted my workflow with easing the burden of adiminstrative work allowing me to better enjoy time with my family.

What is your favorite book genre? And why?

I love reading children's literature with my daughter.

What book are you currently reading?

Sweet Magnolias by Sherryl Woods

What are 3 things that make you happy?

Family. Coffee. Sleeping.
