Going On Now at MPL!

Girl with a Pink Shirt Reading a Blue Book in the Fort

MPL is launching its Youth Winter Drive to help ensure children and teens in our community stay warm this season. All three library locations are now collecting winter essentials for local youth, with donations directly supporting the Teen Essential Shelves at the Lark, Palm View, and Main branches. This year, the drive has grown to include babies and children ages 0–11, making it even easier for families to access what they need during the colder months. As a library system that has always been a place where families can turn for support, we invite our community to make a difference for kids who deserve to feel warm, safe, and cared for. We welcome donations of new or gently used cold-weather items—coats, sweaters, gloves, scarves, beanies, and other warm essentials—to help our youngest residents stay comfortable this winter. All donated clothing will be cleaned before distribution, thanks to the generosity of Quick Spin Laundromat.

Wishing everyone a warm and joyful holiday season. May we take time to appreciate the blessings that sustain us throughout the year and generously share our kindness and abundance with others.

McAllen Public Library Shines at the 2025 TFEA Kaliff Marketing Awards

McAllen Public Library is proud to announce that we brought home more than thirty awards at this year’s Texas Festival & Events Association (TFEA) Kaliff Marketing Awards, including an impressive twenty-one Gold Awards. Among these honors was the coveted Best in Texas Award, TFEA’s highest overall recognition, marking the fifth consecutive year MPL has earned this award for the South Texas Book Festival.

MPL was also recognized for standout sponsorship work during the South Texas Book Festival, its social media campaign for the festival, promotional items for Día de los Niños and the World Languages Festival, creative on site décor for Star Wars Day, and a Gold Award for Best Volunteer Program, thanks to the efforts of MPL’s own Teen Advisory Committee.

These achievements reflect the talent, collaboration, and community pride that shape everything we do at McAllen Public Library.

What is your favorite book genre? And why?

Magical realism, because it makes even the ordinary seem magical. I like that we co-exist with magic

What book series would you like to live in?

Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

What do you enjoy most about working at a library?

The interaction with the patrons, helping them find books, and getting to talk to them about what they like to read is always fun!
