Serving New Paltz for Over 100 Years

In 1909, members of the New Paltz Study Club were the first to realize the need for a free library association in the village of New Paltz. Seven women from the club formed a committee and opened a reading room on the second floor of the building at 60-62 Main Street.

The Study Club assumed the expenses and hired Miss Flora Schoonmaker as librarian. When applying for a charter they realized that their location would not meet the standards set by the University of the State of New York.  A new, larger, first floor location was found in the building at 68 Main Street.

Your donation helps us provide many of our services, programs, resources, and collections to the community. We could not do this without your support.
