$11 MILLION INCREASE TO PUBLIC LIBRARIES!
The state budget for 2022-23 has been passed by the Legislature, the Governor has signed it, and it includes an $11 million increase in the public library subsidy!

This is a major success in advocacy efforts for public libraries in PA. It took YEARS of conversations, relationship building, sharing the positive impacts that libraries have on their communities, and also showing the need for restoring library funding after major cuts (almost 30%) way back in 2008-2009.

While we won't know the impact of the increase here at Cranberry Public Library until sometime this fall, we do know that, for the first time in a very long time, funding from the state will see an increase. It's a good thing!

KIDS & TEENS

After 2 program-packed months of Summer Reading, we take a break from programming for Children & Teens during the month of August.

This gives us a chance to plan and prepare for a school year full of storytimes and programs for these age groups.

Be on the lookout for our fall program guide soon!
We can't wait to see you in September!

Changes in Children's Staff

After 3 1/2 years Glynnis Flores, our Head of Youth Services Librarian, is leaving us to begin a new chapter. We sure will miss her fun loving spirit and contagious laugh, but wish her all the best for happiness as she moves on.

Not to worry, Miss Glynnis is leaving us in good hands! Long-time Teen Services Librarian, Janae Smith-Callihan has been promoted to the Head of our busy Children's Department. With the library in various roles since she was in high school, we're delighted for Janae's opportunity to lead in an area she's passionate about. In addition to overseeing the department, she'll retain her role working with the teens, while current Library Clerk Melissa Rice will take over storytimes for babies/toddlers and preschoolers, as well as programming for children.

Best wishes to Ms. Glynnis, Miss Melissa, & Ms. Janae as they move into new life chapters!

WE'VE GOT AN APP FOR THAT
Soon you'll be able to place holds, checkout and renew items, register for programs, and access electronic resources all from one central location on your phone or tablet. Starting August 10 the library's new app will be available for download on both Apple and Android devices. It will be free to download and use.

The app will allow patrons to more easily and quickly interact with the library and their library account.  One big advantage to using the app is being able to scan and checkout items right on devices without having to stop at the Circulation Desk or a self checkout kiosk. This not only makes checking out faster and easier for patrons, but frees up library staff to do other tasks.

So, yeah. We've got an app for that!

THE FORGE: MAKERSPACE NEWS & EVENTS

July 29 officially marked the one-year anniversary of The Forge! Since then we've hosted 135 programs and one-on-one appointments for over 558 people. We've carved a pumpkin on our laser engraver, turned bowling pins into penguins, and 3D-printed a Rubix Cube on our Prusa 3D printers. We've painted with lightbulbs, made greeting cards, and mastered our Cricut machines.

With a year of learning under our belts, we realize we've only just begun our maker journey.
The next year brings new challenges and new opportunities for growth. We'll continue to diversify our program offerings and offer one-on-one appointments for customized making and learning.

In the meantime, our fearless Makerspace Manager, Mary Frances continues to work with a team of dedicated and talented volunteers to better learn our equipment and offer a variety of classes so that as many people as possible can join in on the making fun. To Jennifer, Alan, Janet, Lesa, Judy and the myriad of others -- thank you for sharing your time and talent with The Forge!
