A Message from the Library Director

Dear Bristol Borough Community and Grundy Patrons,

Warm greetings from the Grundy Library! It’s Back to School next week in Bristol Borough and the Library wants to extend our thanks to the teachers and school administration as they prepare to welcome the children back to the classroom. Thanks for all you do to build the confidence of your students and support their curiosity and wonder as it pertains to the world and our community.

The Grundy Library remains an essential resource for students, families, teachers and the entire community to pursue lifelong learning and personal growth. In addition, we are dedicated to connecting our community members with the support they need throughout their lives. From our collection of books, movies, museum passes, databases and specialty kits to our streaming services, virtual programming and helpful staff, the Library is committed to providing access to information, resources, and assistance whenever you need it.

Visit the Library online -anytime, anywhere – to search our online catalog, use our research databases, explore local history, chat with a librarian, and so much more.

As a reminder, the Library building is closed for construction. Some of the improvements in progress are new paint and carpeting, study rooms, a riverside seating area, patio terraces, and a new roof!

Thank you for your ongoing support and patronage while our building is closed.  We continue to serve you and the Bristol community via our curbside pickup service as well as through our virtual programs, virtual activities and a variety of remote services. We are here for you and happy to help! For assistance, call during regular hours or contact us anytime online.

Grundy Library staff will also be participating in First Friday on September 3rd. Stop by our table and say “hello”!

Warm regards,
Dana Barber
Library Director

Manners & Mores
A Thematic Tour with Museum Curator Geoffrey Webster

Have you wondered what a proper Victorian lady like Margaret Grundy would have taken to a formal affair? What about all those rules for having dinner? Take a special Thematic Tour, “Manners & Mores: A social history of the Late 19th Century” with our Curator Geoffrey Webster at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Learn essential etiquette for everyday occasions, the do’s and don’ts of dressing, and the lost art of paying and receiving calls. Discover why a wealthy woman like Margaret or her mother Mary Grundy would have spent so much time changing outfits every day, and learn about activity-specific clothing from a bygone era.

A limited number of tickets are available on TicketLeap. We hope you will join us! https://grundymuseum.ticketleap.com/

Proceeds from the Thematic Tours support the Grundy Foundation CanDoMore Campaign 4. To find out more about this Campaign 4, which benefits the Museum and Library, go to: https://www.grundyfoundation.com/content/candomore-campaign
