What's up at Wando!
WMTP Adult Services                                                  July 2025
All library branches will be closed July 4 for Independence Day
Hello, Wando friends!

Summer Reading 2025 is in full swing! Five-hour prizes are available for pick up, and 15-hour and 30-hour prizes will be available on July 7 and July 21, respectively. Haven't signed up yet? Check out our Summer Reading 2025 homepage to learn more and get ready for takeoff! Want to get at least 60 points towards your summer reading goal? Bring your book, e-reader, or audiobook with headphones for an hour of quiet, communal reading on Monday, July 7 at 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided, and we'll help you log your reading right then and there!

On that same day, authors Cliff Roberts and Matthew Locke will discuss their book “Holding Charleston by the Bridle: Castle Pinckney and the Civil War,” a gripping account of the fort's strategic significance and untold stories during the conflict. Learn about the critical role Castle Pinckney played in Charleston’s defense and the broader impact on Civil War history on Monday, July 7 at 11 a.m. Or, if you're looking to get crafty, then come to our African Bead Jewelry program on Tuesday, July 22 from 5-6:30 p.m., where you'll make your own or use beads to create bracelets or necklaces inspired by African traditions

Finally, enjoy live embroidery demonstrations by the Lowcountry Embroiderer’s Guild, view beautiful needlework displays, and try a simple cross-stitch project with materials provided while supplies last at our Stich In Public Day. All ages and skill levels are welcome, whether you are bringing a work-in-progress or just curious to learn more. Discover the joy and mindfulness of needle arts in a relaxed and welcoming space on Saturday, July 28 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Check out these and other branch programs on our online calendar, and be sure to swing by the library to pick up a print newsletter with all our Digital Studio, Makerspace and Tech programs.

Happy reading!
