Adjusted Hours for Thursday, February 8 Please note that on Thursday, February 8, Main Library and Manor Branch Library will be open from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm due to an all-staff training.

All San Leandro Public Libraries will be closed for the following holidays: Monday, February 12 – Libraries closed in observance of President Lincoln’s birthday. Book drops at the Main and Manor branch will remain open. Monday, February 19 – Libraries closed in observance of President Washington’s birthday. Book drops at the Main and Manor branch will remain open.

Arts & Culture Grants Program Accepting Applications Now! The City of San Leandro and the Arts, Culture & Library Commission invite all San Leandro-based nonprofit organizations and individual creators, artists, and culture bearers living in San Leandro to apply for a grant from the largest arts and culture fund in the history of the program: $80,000. Nonprofit organization-led projects will be supported with grants of up to $10,000, while Individual-led projects will be supported with grants of up to $5,000. Applications are due by February 29, 2024.

Bookmark Design Contest February 5, 2024 - March 11, 2024 Join us for a friendly contest by designing a bookmark in honor of Art is Education Month. Patrons can visit the Library to pick up their submission form to participate or download the form from the library's website. Library staff will choose 4 winners, one from each age group (Toddlers, Kids, Teens and Adults). Submit your design to one of the San Leandro Public Libraries by March. 11th to be entered for a chance to win! Winning designers will receive a prize and their design will be mass printed and made available to San Leandro Public Library & Museum patrons starting April. 8th for National Library Week.

Women's History Month Tiny Art Show We are celebrating Women’s History Month this March by honoring women artists with our 3rd Annual Tiny Art Show! Register at the Main Library information desk, starting February 13th to receive a mini art kit and create your masterpiece inspired by a woman artist. For ages 12+.

Celebrate Black History Month

Black History Month Read-In Join the San Leandro Public Library’s 4th annual Black History Month Read-In to uplift and celebrate Black writers, thinkers, and creators! From February 1st through February 29th, participate online on Beanstack or use a paper booklet (available at Main and Manor or via our website). Earn 14 points by reading or completing activities and claim a finisher prize! This challenge is for patrons ages 12+.

History for Kids: RedliningSaturday, February 3, 1pm - 3pm Explore the history of Redlining through our interpretive program for kids. This program is designed for children ages 7-16 to obtain a greater understanding of what Redlining is and how it affects communities. Adults are welcome!

Performance and Discussion with the Kalimba King Join us to kickoff off Black History Month! Enjoy music as Kalimba King, Carl Winters, introduces the African thumb piano. During this performance and presentation, you’ll learn about the kalimba’s role in African cultures, particularly Zimbabwe. You’ll hear music played on ten kalimbas, in a variety of styles including blues, gospel, and pop, and get a chance to play a kalimba. No registration necessary.

Family Fun Night: African Music & Art Village with Baba Shibambo Wednesday, February 21, 6:30pm Discover the rhythm and cultures of Africa with Baba Shibambo, a South African master drummer and multi-instrumentalist.

Mandarin Story Time and Lunar New Year Crafting Sessions Saturday, February 3 10:30 am - 11:30 am: Mandarin Story Time- Enjoy Chinese New Year stories and poems with a dragon craft/coloring sheet 11:30am - 1:30 pm: Lunar New Year crafts and dragon kits presented by the Asian Community Cultural Association (ACCA)

Lunar New Year Celebration Saturday, February 10, 1:30pm - 3:30pm Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with The Dasen American Academy who will offer a series of traditional dances from the diverse regions of China (1:30 - 2:30 PM). Following the dances, Joyous Spring Lion Dance Troupe will perform a lively and spectacular traditional dance (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm). Enjoy tangerines, cookies, and teas, and take pictures at the celebration.

Origami Workshop for Adults Tuesday, February 20, 6pm - 7:30pm Manor Branch Library, 1241 Manor Blvd Ring in the Year of the Dragon with award winning origami artist and Paper Tree Japantown proprietor, Linda Tomoko Mihara. Learn the history of the intricate paper folding art and create your own origami dragon. This program is open adults 18+. No registration required.

How the Cannery Shaped San Leandro Saturday, March 2, 1pm - 3pm History Museum, 320 W. Estudillo Ave. Curious about the Cannery that was located in our very own city staring in the late 1800’s? Join us to learn "How the Cannery Shaped San Leandro." You will also be creating a sweet easy jam to take home. This program is for ages 10+.

Young For Governor, Show Office (1926) From the San Leandro Library Archives It's election year! Check out this photo from our archive, showing the show office for C.C. Young in 1926. Clement Calhoun Young was the 26th governor of California and was in office from 1927 - 1931. Come by the San Leandro History Museum to learn more about local and California state history. The San Leandro History Museum is OPEN: - Wednesday 1-4pm (except in September)
