National Library Week is April 23-29, "There's More to the Story"
 
April is National Library Week. If you’re getting this newsletter, there’s a good chance you already have a Library Card. While you have access to more resources with a library card, including books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, audiobooks, music CDs, and digital resources you can checkout to your phone, tablet, or Kindle such as e-books, audio-ebooks, and e-magazines, you also have access to dozens of learning platforms and research databases for all ages like LinkedIn Learning and BrainFuse (homework help). And if that weren’t enough, you have access to our Library of Things where we loan out items like tools, telescopes, and cakepans to name just a few.  Having a library card gives you the ability to get on a library computer at the library or check out a Chromebook and/or hotspot from the library and bring it home with you.  
 
With or without a card, the library is always free to attend if you need a place to get some work done, study, or meet with a friend. Additionally, you are always welcome to attend any of our programs geared at specific children, teen, or adult audiences ranging from subjects including art, culture, science, history, work force development, literacy, crafts, writing, sports, computers, gardening, and so much more.   
 
Additionally, April is the kickoff of the San Leandro Wednesday Farmers’ Market. This will be the 2nd year hosted at the Main Library. We hope you have even more fun at it this year. Just a reminder, that free parking on Farmers’ Market days after 3:00PM is available in the parking garage on Estudillo/Callan just one block from the library.  We hope to see you this April! 
 
Library Operations Update

Farmer's Market Starts Wednesday, April 5
The Downtown Farmer’s Market returns to the Main Library parking lot starting Wednesday, April 5. Parking is available in the City Parking Garage on Estudillo/Callan (free after 3:00pm on Farmer’s Market Wednesdays).

Bookmark Design Contest Winners
 
The San Leandro Public Libraries conducted a Bookmark Design Contest between Feb.22- Mar.22 in honor of Art Is Education month. All entries have been submitted, and three winners will be chosen to receive a PRIZE and have their design mass-printed and made available to Library and Museum patrons starting April.23rd for National Library Week. Stay tuned as we announce the winners and their prizes.

We will be reading Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala, the first book in a new culinary cozy mystery series full of sharp humor and delectable dishes.  
 
Events will include book discussions, book inspired programming and an author discussion with Mia P. Manansala on Thursday, 06/01!

Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) Information Session

DIY Memory Lab Orientation

Tatreez Take & Make
San Leandro Main Library 
 
Celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month by picking up a free Tatreez (embroidery) Take & Make kit starting Saturday, 4/8. Tatreez is a Palestinian embroidery style that has been passed down for centuries. The Kit includes everything you need to create a cross-stitch Tatreez pattern of the Cypress Tree design.
Kits are LIMITED and will be available while supplies last.

Henna Tattoo Workshop

Join us as we celebrate the  Islamic Holiday of Eid with artist Rachel Palacios from Devika’s Palacio.  She will speak about the ancient art of Henna and teach henna designs.  You will also get your own Henna design which is temporary.    For adults and teens.  Registration required.
