Welcome to the Welcoming Library! I’m Your Neighbor Books’ Welcoming Library is a collection of acclaimed children’s picture books featuring New Arrival and New American families. Each book contains a discussion guide affixed to the inside back cover to facilitate exploration of the topics of welcoming and belonging, and what it means to arrive in a new culture, country, or community. The Welcoming Library is on display in the Main Library children’s room during open hours.

2022 marks 150 years since the City of San Leandro was incorporated in 1872. Each month we’ll update you on the Library’s “Time Travel” series in honor of the city’s sesquicentennial, as well as City-wide events and activities celebrating this milestone.

Pickling Basics Saturday February 26 Interested in learning a new skill for the kitchen? Join us for a workshop on Quick Pickling. Class includes a demo a pickling and canning demo. Learn the basics to help you get started! Class is scheduled for Saturday, 02/26. Time and location are TBD. Please check our website in the coming weeks for updates. Registration will be required. This class is part of our Time Travel series in honor of the city’s 150th anniversary. Did you know there were various canneries in town in the early 1900’s including near where the downtown BART station stands today? Canneries provided jobs and bought produce in bulk from the surrounding farms. This class was inspired by that chapter in San Leandro History.

Career Online High School (COHS) is an online high school diploma and career certification program available through the San Leandro Public Library. This program offers free enrollment to a limited number of qualified adult students. Finish high school and start a career, free at the library.
