Invisible Labor: The Women behind the Whaling Industry
Thursday, March 25, 7:00 - 8:00 PM
 
Long Island was at the heart of commercial whaling, the USA’s 5th most profitable industry in the 19th century. LI Native women ensured industry success by their labor and the mechanisms of survival they built while men were absent, at sea. In this talk, local historian Erin Becker will discuss the role of Long Island Native women in this industry. Click here to register.

Comedy Workshop
Thursdays, April 1, 8, 15, and 22.   7:00 - 8:30 PM each session.
Learn techniques to write and perform your own stand-up comedy from writer and stand-up comedian Pat Shea in this 4-part series. Find your style and learn skills such as pacing your act and comedic timing. You are encouraged to hone 3 - 6 minutes of comedy to perform during the final session. Click here to register.  
 
 

 
Cooking School Challenge
Tuesdays, April 6 through June 8
7:00 - 8:00 PM    (No meeting on May 11)
 
Teaching techniques which allow you to cook creatively instead of just following recipes, The Haven’s Kitchen Cooking School: Recipes and Inspiration to Build a Lifetime of Confidence in the Kitchen by Alison Cayne will be our textbook. Each week via Zoom we’ll go over the lessons covered, share what we learned and what recipes we have tried and tasted. Click here to register with your library card.

March Craft: Watercolor Paper Lanterns
Pick up a kit to decorate your own colorful paper lantern. You may call the Reference Desk to check availability, or just stop by with your library card. 
 
April Craft: Bird Feeders
Upcycle cardboard tubes into Bird Feeders with Peanut Butter and Bird Seed. You may call or stop by the Reference Desk with your library card to register ahead of time. Pick-up begins April 1.
