Mobile Health Clinic

Common Spirit Health/Dignity Mobile Wellness Clinic and Santa Cruz Public Libraries are partnering together to connect services that support the physical, mental and economic health and well-being of patrons and provide equitable care to underserved communities with visits to the Felton Branch Library on the third Tuesday of the month.

Hours

9:00a-12:00p and 1:00p-3:00p Closed for holidays and inclement weather

Services provided 

Bilingual (English & Spanish) staff  Evaluation and treatment of both acute and chronic health care needs Screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer. Referrals to community providers for specialty care, including mental health Help navigating the health care system and local resources

One of our tech savvy staff members at the Felton Library would like to help you troubleshoot your question with a 30 minute (or less) appointment. Possible topics may include: creating an email account, creating documents, attaching files, using premium subscription library resources, downloading and streaming content like movies, books, and audiobooks, and more. Please bring any devices you use, and have your necessary passwords and library card with you.

Project Scout Tax Preparation Assistance

Project SCOUT offers Volunteer income tax assistance and tax counseling for local residents during tax season at sites throughout Santa Cruz County. Volunteers are trained by Internal Revenue Service and Franchise Tax Board personnel. For disabled individuals unable to get to the tax sites, they have trained volunteers who can do in-home tax preparation. Seniors get priority at all library sessions.

What Got You Here WILL Get You There: Approaching the Job Search after 60

This seven-session program will arm you with strategies, resources and emotional support to find the job that mirrors your talents and timeframe. Become part of a dedicated cohort of 20 participants who will commit to attendance at each session, as each session builds on the previous session’s work. Session 1: Introduction: Getting Work Ready

Visualize your ideal job and identify the transferable skills that make you a highly desirable job candidate. Learn about free resources at your Library to assist in your search.

Session 2:  Foundations of a 21st Century Resume

Review job targets and key skills. work on accomplishment statements and background summary. Explore the differences between your resume and LinkedIn profile

Session 3: Foundations of a 21st Century Resume - Continued

Library staff provide an in-depth look at various resources and templates at the Library to craft your resume and LinkedIn profile. Time for hands-on practice and Q + A.

Session 4: Looking for Jobs in All the Right Places

There are many ways to surface job opportunities.  We will explore all methods, including myths and realities and out of the box approaches.

Session 5: Looking for Jobs in All the Right Places…with the Library

Learn about Library resources related to surfacing job opportunities: company information; local temp agencies; local and national job boards; linkedin for networking and leads.

Session 6: Interviewing - Presenting Your Best Self

Learn how to present yourself as the best candidate for the job! Review common interview formats and approaches such as behavior-based questions. Get interview practice and learn about interview resources available at the library. Gain confidence, anticipate pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Session 7:  Launching the Process

Maintaining a positive attitude, dealing with rejection, conscious and unconscious bias, and avoiding self-sabotage are key. Learn how to develop a record-keeping system and why. Wrap up.

About the Presenter

Nancy Jones has worked in the field of adult career, leadership, and talent development for more than 20 years. She brings positive and creative energy to individual coaching and the design and delivery of lively presentations.  She has extensive experience in both corporate and academic settings. She is qualified to administer and interpret a wide range of assessment tools. Nancy was a regular contributor to KSDK NewsChannel 5 (NBC affiliate in St. Louis) on career-related issues.

Nancy has delivered workshops and individual coaching to a broad range of clients including biotech, pharmaceuticals, financial services, commercial real estate, gas – retail and utility, healthcare, food and pet product, publishing and cable television and media industries. She has facilitated specialized employee and leader seminars in the areas of career development, intercultural competency, leading with respect and employment law.

Nancy holds a master’s degree in counseling from The American University, Washington, D.C., and pursued additional graduate studies at The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.

New Parents' Support Group

Join us for this weekly peer support group for new parents facilitated by two local postpartum doulas. This program offers a welcoming space for new parents to learn from each other, make new friends, get breastfeeding and bottle feeding support, and access to helpful resources. Come in with your questions, concerns, or just for a safe place to meet other parents and create community. Bring your own blanket, snacks, toys, and please feel free to bring older siblings!

Picture Bingo with Shared Adventures

About Shared Adventures:

Founded in 1994 by Foster Andersen, a survivor of a spinal cord injury with quadriplegia, Shared Adventures has provided hundreds of life-enriching recreational and social activities for people with special needs.

Our goal is to offer opportunities for social and recreational interaction for disabled people, and thereby encourage:

Personal growth, development, and self-confidence Cooperation, decision-making, and leadership skills Outdoor skills and environmental awareness Improved quality of life and level of happiness

We are the only program in Santa Cruz County that offers a year-round calendar of recreational events that is completely inclusive! We cater to people of all walks of life, including age, disability, and our veterans.


Aptos Youth Chess Club

Come and play chess, one of the world’s oldest and most popular games, against other kids! One-hour meetings include 15 minutes of instruction by chess master Dana Mackenzie. For ages 6-18. We welcome all skill levels, but encourage beginners to at least learn the basic rules (how the pieces move) before coming the first time.


Note to parents: Chess is a great way for kids to build sportsmanship, concentration, and reasoning skills, while having a lot of fun!

Homeless Garden Project Open Office Hours

The Homeless Garden Project (HGP) and Santa Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) are partnering together to provide the HGP office hours at the Downtown Santa Cruz Branch Library.  The HGP open office hours provides people experiencing homelessness the opportunity to learn more about HGP services and programs.  Additionally, this partnership will make library spaces available for the HGP to meet with clients, service providers, community organizations, and others to support a thriving and inclusive community, workforce, and local food system.
