Program Description

Description

Welcome to Armchair Traveller! You will be visiting places from the comfort of your chair.

Join us for a Zoom presentation on Friday, May 7th at 1:00 for an in-depth look at the Thomas Hart Benton mural cycles in the New York State Museum.

In 1956 Thomas Hart Benton was commissioned by Robert Moses, chairman of the New York Power Authority, to create two murals for the New York State’s first hydropower facility. The murals were removed and conserved beginning in 2018 and are on loan to the New York State Museum. We will gain an understanding of how the images depicting members of the Seneca peoples were researched and understood for that time.

Our guest speaker, Karen Quinn is the Senior Historian/Curator/ at the New York State Museum in Albany.

Registration required. You will be sent the Zoom link on the day of the event.
