Great Books Council of San Francisco               Mini Retreat Via Zoom

Dear Reader of Great Books,

Join us on Saturday, February 19, 2922, for a day of Shared Inquiry at the San Francisco Mini Retreat with King Priam, Achilles, and other intriguing personalities from Homer’s Iliad.  In the morning session we will discuss the final three books, 22, 23, and 24, using Stephen Mitchell’s masterful translation of the Iliad.

“Mitchell’s translation…captures the fierce energy, rhythms, and powerful narrative…The poetry rocks and has a macho cast to it, like rap music.”

PDF of this reading will be provided upon registration!

In the afternoon session, award-winning author and poet David Malouf will take us on a deep dive into the human implications of a father’s love of his son and a man’s love of his lifelong friend.  Malouf reimagines this tale inspired by The Illiad in his unforgettable work, RANSOM.

“Exquisite…lovely and moving…Lyrical, witty, gentle, this is above all a story of transformation…”

You can aquire either the hardback or paperback edition.
