What is the Memory Lab?
The DIY Memory Lab is a do-it-yourself space with equipment to digitize home movies, scan photographs and slides, along with other personal/family keepsakes, located in the History Room on second floor of the San Leandro Public Library. It's a DIY model, with step-by-step instructions provided for user reference, with staff or volunteers on hand for technical support.
Since the Memory Lab will be located in the History Room, there will be minimal History Room related tasks with this position.
Volunteers will receive training on the equipment before starting.
Please note that the Memory Lab is not yet open and the start date listed for this position is subject to change.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Staffs the History Room while the Memory Lab is open.
- Provides one-on-one assistance to patrons using the Memory Lab.
- Troubleshoots Memory Lab equipment.
- Provides basic research assistance to patrons in the History Room.
Skills Needed:
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Competent on giving instruction on a one-on-one basis
Weekly Shifts Available:
- Mondays: 2:00-5:00
- Fridays: 11:00-2:00
- Fridays: 2:00-5:00

Time Commitment:
Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week and a minimum of 6 months.
Requirements:
- Adult library volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must agree to undergo a background check prior to starting their volunteer service
