During Under the Sea Week, we are inviting our young patrons to go fishing in the library!  Hidden throughout the library are 3 lost fish that children must find to complete a puzzle! Once all three fish are found and pasted on the official entry form, children will receive a prize! They will also be automatically entered to win our Under the Sea Gift Basket, filled with all sorts of great books and other goodies! Pick up your official entry form at the Chidren's Room desk. Mad Science's Life in the Sea workshop plunges children into the depths of ocean life using a variety of engaging hands-on activities. Children will learn to classify creatures from squids to sponges, compare the size of  shark and whale teeth, learn about the ocean's ecosystem and more. Children will leave with their own take-home activity to further their own exploration of the sea at home. 

This program is recommended for grades K-12.  Registration is required for this event as space and supplies are limited. We will begin taking registration on Friday, April 12. Parents should call the Children's Room at 508-324-2700, ext. 4.

April is Poetry Month and the Children's Room will be celebrating with a presentation featuring poems and stories from some of children's literature's best loved poets! The morning will highlight such well-known poets as Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky, Emily Dickinson, and Dr. Seuss! Kids can also enjoy an easy-to-make craft and a a guest appearance by the Cat in the Hat!

Michael Taylor, a British merchant mariner, for "A Day in the Life of a Whaling Voyage," an illustrated presentation that takes you into the world of a 19th-century New England whale ship. Learn what life was like aboard these mighty whaling vessels, watch a real-life demonstration of the harpoons that whalers used, and see baleen taken from the massive jaws of a whale.

The Cactus Head Puppets brings the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin to life in this comedic, updated adaptaion  of the traditional folktale. Join puppeteers John and Megan Regan as they present this classic tale, told with multiple puppetry styles and plenty of dancing rats!

The storytime will feature a selection of entertaining stories featuring these magical creatures, including You Don't Want a Unicorn by Ame Dyckman. Children will make a unicorn craft after storytime. Special guest Unie the Unicorn will be on hand to meet children and pose for pictures. A special surprise is in store for all attending! Mad Science presents All About Animals!, introducing children to the amazing assortment of creatures inhabiting the animal kingdom! Children will learn about astounding creatures as they experiment with camouflage and get hands-on with with real tooth and claw replicas.The Animal Tracks Take-Home activity lets children create casts of animal tracks just like real naturalists!
