Weymouth History Lecture Series: "Thomas Weston - Rogue Entrepreneur"

Thursday, October 207:00—8:30 PMMultipurpose Room 138Tufts Library46 Broad Street, Weymouth, MA, 02188

Nick Bunker will present a talk titled "Thomas Weston - Rogue Entrepreneur." Mr. Bunker is the author of Making Haste from Babylon, an account of the financial background to the Plymouth Colony. While the book focuses on Plymouth Colony, it also discusses Thomas Weston, the inadvertent founder of the Weston colony established at Wessagusset in 1622, who led a group of merchant investors to underwrite the Pilgrim venture. By looking at hitherto unexplored court records and government documents, Bunker brings Weston, a "rogue entrepreneur", to life. Mr. Bunker has worked as an investment banker and as a journalist at several prominent British newspapers. He attended Kings College, Cambridge, and Columbia University. He lives in Lincolnshire, England, close to where several of the Mayflower voyagers lived.
