1,000 Books [PreK]

Share the joy of reading with your child and earn virtual badges along the way. It may seem daunting, but if you and your child read just one book a night, you will easily surpass the 1,000 books goal within 3 years. If you read two books a day, you will surpass the goal within 1-1/2 years.

The science is clear: Children who are read to before kindergarten enter school with ONE MILLION more words in their vocabulary. Even pediatricians are stressing the importance of reading to your babies and toddlers, stating it is one of THE MOST important things you can do for your child to set them up for a lifetime of achievement and on-track brain development. Not only does it create a love of reading, and kids associate books with the love of a parent, but they will continue to outperform their peers as they grow.

How does 1000 Books work?

· Register Online Here – Parents, you can create an account first to easily monitor your children's activity. Once you register, visit the Youth Services desk to receive a free tote, journal and book!

· Track Your Reading – Log every book you read with your child here!

· Keep Reading! – Prepare your child for kindergarten by reaching 1,000 books before they enter kindergarten.

Put reading first, with 20 minutes a day spent reading to your children.
Make it fun and exciting. Be imaginative.

If you read just 1 book a day, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years, and 1,095 books in just three years!
