Publishers Weekly Review

The power of varied repetition hooks even readers who aren't truck aficionados in a title that initially seems as literal as they come: opening spreads show one truck being towed by or loaded on another ("Blue truck on red truck. Red truck on blue truck," writes Fairbank). But the arrival of less commonplace fare--a pink vehicle sporting painted daisies, and a green truck interacting with nothing at all--raises questions about what combination will turn up next. One answer: a porcine-shaped food truck, complete with curly tail ("Pig truck"), being hauled by a bright yellow and orange, semi with dual exhaust stacks ("on big rig truck"). Henderson's gouache and digital art employs screen-print-like textures and a midcentury modern playfulness, with lots of strong shapes and whimsical details that draw plenty of laughs. Ages 4--8. Booklist Review

What could be better than a truck? Two trucks, one on top of the other! That's the basic premise of this colorful picture book, which features a new combination or two on each double-page spread. Usually, one is a tow truck. On the opening page, "Blue truck on red truck" refers to a small red tow truck lifting a small blue truck, while the facing page ("Red truck on blue truck") shows a larger blue truck hauling the original red truck. The pattern varies a bit with lines such as, "Pig truck on big rig truck. / Fuel truck on cool truck." Created with gouache and digital elements, the vibrant illustrations show a strong sense of color, composition, and child appeal. The text is brief enough to hold the attention of the youngest vehicle fans and varied enough to interest somewhat older ones, particularly since the book could be used for counting, identifying colors, or sorting by size. With eye-catching jacket art, this book will quickly find its audience.
