Join us for an event in celebration of Fogg Library 125th Anniversary! 

On Monday, September 11th at 7:00 PM at Tufts Library in Room 138, we will have a panel discussion about Fogg Library as part of the celebration of Fogg's 125th birthday. 

Jim Clarke of the Weymouth Historical Commission will introduce our two speakers. Dave Finney will speak about Fogg Library's design and its context within late 19th-century architecture. Gail Trachtenberg, an architect and principal owner of MMT, the firm that renovated Fogg Library in two phases from 2010-2014, who will speak about that restoration of Fogg Library leading up to its reopening to the public in April 2014.

About the Speakers 

David Finney is a history enthusiast, sailor and retired architect. He has degrees from St. John’s College (Liberal Arts), the University of Toronto (Philosophy), and a B. Arch. from the Boston Architectural Center. Prior to retiring in 2015, he was President and Principal of Design Partnership of Cambridge (now part of Perkins Eastman Architects), which designed new and renovated schools & libraries across Massachusetts and the Northeast. His historic Library work includes renovation and expansion of the Ayer Public Library in western Middlesex County. Since retiring, David has spent his time renovating a historic shotgun-style house in New Orleans and undertaking several historic projects in Massachusetts and Louisiana. Besides a Colonial Weymouth mapping project completed and presented in 2021, his major historic focus has been as part of the team restoring the WW2 Higgins PT boat, PT-305, for both museum display and seagoing use, under the auspices of the WW2 Museum in New Orleans. David and his wife Cynthia have two sons and live in Weymouth MA and New Orleans LA. He is a member of the South Shore Yacht Club in Weymouth and of Krewe du Vieux, a satirical Mardi Gras marching society in New Orleans.

Gail Trachtenberg is a registered architect. Her degrees include Roger Williams University, School of Architecture, BArch University of Texas, Austin, School of Architecture, Masters of Science in Community and Regional Planning, MSCRP.  Ms. Trachtenberg experience encompasses city planning, for various sized cities, and architectural services for larger public funded projects as well as smaller more intimate private sector work. She has worked on many significant projects with historic value, including Fogg Library.
