The Romance of Schumann: Clarinet, Viola and Piano Trio (Postponed from March) In-Person

The trio, Sweet Rain, composed of Danby Cho, clarinet; Hyemin Choi, viola; and Haram Kim, piano, will play these very romantic pieces by Robert Schumann: Drei Romanzen (Three Romances), Op .94 (1849) for Clarinet and Piano; Märchenbilder (Fairy Tale Pictures), Op.113 (1851) for Viola and Piano; Arabeske In C Major, Op.18 (1839) for Solo Piano; Märchenerzählungen (Fairy Tale Narrations), Op 132 (1853) for Clarinet, Viola and Piano

Danby Cho holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University and is a member of the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda.  She has been a soloist with orchestras here and abroad, and has been principal clarinet with the Boston Chamber Symphony. She has been a prize winner in solo and chamber music competitions, and has taught clarinet in Boston and at Tanglewood.

Violist Hye Min Choi has received numerous awards and honors in both Korea and the United States, including prizes in the Music
Journal Competition, the Music Choon Choo Competition, the World Newspaper Competition, the Kyung Hee University Competition, the Sung Shin Women's University Competition, the Duxbury Music Festival Soloists' Competition, and Boston
University’s Bach Competition as well as BU’s String Department Honors Award. The Boston Musical Intelligencer has described her
playing as “wonderful tone, expression and poise,” and called her “someone to watch.”

Haram Kim is a South Korean pianist. She made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall after being awarded first prize in the International Piano competitions, and also has several top prizes at piano competitions including the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington D.C, the International Beethoven club piano competition, the American Protégé International Piano Competition, and the International Korean Arts Foundation Competition.
