K. R. Harbert is a veteran of the US Navy and US Coast Guard. He served in Vietnam where he cared for Navy and Marine personnel. Today, Harbert is a local author, photographer, Professor and a Physician Associate. He has provided national and international health care and medical education for over 30 years.

Our Paths in Life is his second book of poetry and was published by Redhawk Publications. This book focuses on people, places, and periods of life around the world.  These paths represent our lives – family, friends, patients, and veterans. These words hold a special hope for our future.

Harbert’s poems can be found in an assortment of professional journals and veteran magazines. The title of his poem Lifesavers then…Caregivers Now is on the Medic/Corpsman statue at the Stead Center in Durham, North Carolina. Harbert believes healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and has devoted his life to teaching and providing care in emergency medicine, psychiatry, disaster medicine and primary care.
