Global Famine: Fears of global food shortages have followed Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has disrupted grain shipments from the major grain producer. But what about countries and regions that were suffering before this impending shortage? How is famine defined, and how is it different from simple food shortages? What if any remedies are there?

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion on world affairs. Forsyth County Public Library and the University of North Georgia (UNG) will present information and lead discussions on a range of fascinating and timely geopolitical topics selected by the Foreign Policy Association.

For additional information and resources on Global Famine, please visit the Foreign Policy Association website.

This week’s topic is Global Famine presented by Dr Bibek Chand Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at the University of North Georgia. His research interests include Sino-Indian interactions in Asia, international relations of small states, security studies, the emerging notion of the Indo-Pacific, and geopolitics. He has published in several journals including Strategic Analysis, Journal of Borderlands Studies, and Air Force Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs. Dr. Chand also served as a co-editor for a book titled New Challenges and Opportunities in European-Asian Affairs: Navigating an Assertive China and a Retrenching U.S. published by Palgrave Macmillan.
