THE STONES OF AILSA CRAIG
Maine author and curler David Florig will read from and discuss his debut novel, The Stones of Ailsa Craig. Have you ever wondered about the sport of curling? What is it with the ice, the stone, and the broom that has captured the interest of millions of fans and found its place in the Olympics? Florig’s historical fiction novel, set in present-day Belfast, Maine, and in 1880s Scotland is centered around the ancient Scottish sport of curling and features a foreword by Olympic curler Tara Peterson. The Stones of Ailsa Craig was named a Category Finalist by the 2023 American Writing Awards.
Although curling provides the context, the book will appeal to fans of historical fiction and mysteries.
The event will include readings, a curling stone made from 60-million-year-old granite, Q&A, and book signing.
David Florig is a member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, as well as a member and past-president of the Pine Tree Curling Club in Portland. The Stones of Ailsa Craig is his debut novel and is an homage to Belfast, Maine; the glorious Maine coast; and the ancient Scottish sport of curling.
David lives in Ocean Park, Maine with his wife of thirty-five years, Nancy, and their ill-mannered rescue dog, Molly Malone.
