PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES Four computers are available for kids to use in the Children's Department. Toys and games are also available for play.

Tween Bowling (video game) Thursday, February 22, 6:30 - 7:30 PM for Tweens in grades 4 - 7 We are going retro this month and playing on the Wii! Join us for a fun game of bowling with friends. Snacks will be served. Register here.

Ends on February 29 For children newborn - 5th grade. Join our Winter Reading Challenge! Get a special game board, do some reading challenges, and earn a prize. One sheet per child. Register at the Children's Desk.

For the month of February: Guess the number of candy hearts in the jar. The closest guess will win a prize!

|
For the month of March: Each week, one crayon will hide in the Children's Department. Find the crayon to be entered into a raffle. For an extra challenge, all four crayons will hide during the last week of March. One randomly selected winner will receive a Crayola® Ultimate Crayon Collection.

Mother's Group (series) Mondays, 10:00 - 10:45 AM March 4, 11, 18, 25, April 1, 8, & 15 For mothers of infants.
|
|
Adjusting to motherhood is a complex journey with physical and emotional challenges. Talk with other mothers and a bilingual licensed mental health counselor to get support for various mothering topics, and meet other mothers in the area. Please note: This discussion group will be taking place in our small program room. Infants can sit in laps or in infant seats, but there's no room for toddlers or older children to play, and they cannot be left unattended in the Children's Dept.

Parent Child Workshop (series) Thursdays, 10:00 - 11:00 AM March 7, 14, & 21 For children ages 1 - 4 years AND an adult. Join us for a fun, developmentally-appropriate playdate and ask questions of the early childhood expert we invite each week. Register starting March 1.

Storytime Yoga Saturday, March 9, 10:00 - 10:45 AM For children ages 3 - 6 years AND an adult. Hear a special story and learn some fun yoga stretches. A great first introduction to yoga. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Register starting March 1.

Family Yoga Saturday, March 9, 11:00 - 11:45 AM For children in grades 2 - 5 AND an adult. Yoga stretches and poses not only feel good, but also are great for mindfulness and self-regulation. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Register starting March 1.

Kids Birthdays We love to make kids feel special for their birthday!

During your child's birthday month, let us know at the Children's Desk so we can put their name on a paper candle on the bulletin board birthday cupcake, and give them a birthday sticker.

Overwhelmed Box a resource in the Children's Department Does your child feel overwhelmed from noise or people in the library?
|
|
The Children's Department has a box with sensory items that may help. It contains 2 child-sized noise-reduction headphones, a small weighted lap pad, and mindfulness tracing boards. |
|
Get ready to leave with a Helping Hand-Stamp Children love to play at the library, but sometimes hate to leave. If you think your child might have a meltdown when it's time to go (no judgement, we've been there), ask a Children's Librarian for a Helping Hand-Stamp. This ink stamp on your child's hand can become a part of your leaving routine and a reminder that we'll see them again!

The CDC has updated their checklist for parents of children age 2 months through 5 years to monitor their child's development.

Passport Services by Appointment We serve first-time applicants, minor applicants, adult applicants whose most recent passport was issued as a minor, and applicants who have lost their passports.

Hours are by appointment only. You may also call us at 631-286-0818 x1. Our service cannot renew a passport. Printed forms are available by the Reference Desk.
