Writer's Workshop

Interested in receiving direct feedback on your writing from other writers? Join the writer's workshop where writers read their work and share comments. Class meets every two weeks and a new piece of writing is due at each class. 
Each work should be one page in length, any subject, and any style. Register online here and click here to view the first assignment, or register at the Reference Desk to get a printed copy.

The Sweet Side of Ireland
Friday, March 8, 2:00 - 3:30 PM
 
Join local cookbook author Margaret M. Johnson for a delightful program that includes a discussion of the transformation of Irish food from traditional breads and puddings to modern desserts with examples (and samples) from her cookbooks.
 
The program includes tips for traveling to Ireland, tea, and Irish sweets. Ms. Johnson’s cookbooks will be available for sale ($20) and signing. Click here to register.
 
 
Understanding Grief
Monday, March 11, 1:00 - 2:30 PM
 
In this presentation, representatives from the COPE Foundation will discuss definitions of loss, grief and mourning. They will offer an in depth look at how grief can manifest in the lives of individuals and also consider how our society impacts the ways in which we think about grief.

Daring and Intrepid Airwomen

Long Island women were aviation's early history makers, including the first woman aviator (1910) and first licensed women pilots.
 
Learn of a 17-year-old Freeport woman who flew below four East River bridges on a dare (1928), the same year a LI woman propelled Amelia Earhart to fame. Click here to register.

Boating Safety Course
Saturday, March 23, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
 
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide instruction at all levels on topics including boating law, safety equipment, navigation, and more. Book included and certificate granted upon completion. 
It is suggested that attendants bring a snack and drink. Register in person at the Reference Desk -- bring a check or money order made out to USCG AUX. Adults: $40. Under-18: $35.

Join our Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver Support Group, presented by Family & Children's Association and Parker Jewish Institute’s Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands, for caregivers of loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Meetings provide these caregivers opportunities to meet with others, participate in educational programs, and have questions answered about their loved one's care.

We are not able to notarize wills, mortgages, or sales of property.  All documents must be in English. You must have a valid New York State driver’s license or identification card. You may use a valid United States passport but must also have proof of residence that shows your current address. No post office boxes.

Passport Services by Appointment
We serve first-time applicants, minor applicants, adult applicants whose most recent passport was issued as a minor, and applicants who have lost their passports. 
Hours are by appointment only.

Renew or Apply for a New Library Card on Our Website
South Country Library patrons may renew their card or apply for a new one online. Images of photo ID and address verification are required. Or visit our Patron Services desk at the front of the library for the same service.

Services for Veterans and Job-Seekers
Helps veterans and their families navigate the VA bureaucracy, provides academic tutoring, and assists with employment transition.
Provides various tools to help with every step of the job search including résumé assistance, interview preparation, and career planning.
Each service provides live virtual assistance every day
from 2:00 - 11:00 PM. A current library card is required.
