Event Details

Natural burial is the oldest form of body disposition around, though it is not commonplace in the United States. In America, the way burials were handled started shifting during the civil war when people wanted to bring home their dead soldiers, paving the way for embalming and taking funeral care out of the home and into the hands of "professionals". There have been several styles and shifts in cemeteries and deathcare since the 1850's, and in the last thirty years, there has been a resurgence of natural burial.

Creston Cemetery, located only 15 minutes east from the center of Atascadero, was established in 1887. Many of the names seen on the tombstones can be found in the local books written about the early European settlers, and how they made their home there. It's believed that natural burial was how they handled their dead back then, and it’s how those laid to rest in Creston Cemetery are honored today.

Come learn about those settlers of the past, and who the new owners are, and what natural burial is and what makes it a beautiful and righteous choice for your final act.
