Garden Gnomes du Plume: A Writer's Group

In-person event. Registration is encouraged, so we know how many tables and chairs to set up.

Award-winning writer and instructor Eric Witchey will lead our writer’s group (all writer’s are welcome) in a two-hour seminar on managing tone and form in dialog to reveal character, develop social relationships between characters, and manifest psychology of character in the larger context of a story.

The seminar will focus on “indirect dialog” and when to use it, how to use it, and when not to use it. Mr. Witchey applies his unique blend of theoretical linguistics and practical experience selling tales in 13 genres to demonstrate practical, executable skills seminar participants can take home and immediately apply in their own work.

Drug Interaction Workshop

Registration required

Medications can bring on problems if they don’t mix well with other things you put into your body, like another medication, a certain food, or alcohol. These drug interactions can make your medication stop working, become less effective, or too strong, and cause potentially triggering side effects.

Kayt Zundel MPA, MS from Legacy Health Services will explain how to check potential interactions and how to avoid them.

Following the 1-hour presentation, she will go over drug interations with each attendee. Registrants will be emailed a sheet to jot down their medications for these individual sessions. Look for an email from the library with more details.

Simple Estate Planning

Simple Estate Planning

Cheryl Gill, author of A Very Simple Estate Planning Guide, will explain how to make the process of estate planning as simple and stress-free as possible.

The following are some of the topics that will be covered:

  • What is estate planning and how do you get started

  • What are the three things everyone needs to have

  • What are the easiest ways to keep assets out of probate

  • What are the most common mistakes people make

About the presenter: Gill ventured into estate planning for personal reasons, but quickly found the information available to be confusing and overwhelming. Hearing the same frustration voiced by many others motivated her to create a guide to help people overcome the stumbling blocks that keep them from moving forward. With 25 plus years in the real estate and legal worlds, her aim was simple: create a book that presents this topic in a way that everyone can understand and walks them through the process to reach their goal.

Copies of Gill’s book will also be available to purchase. Copies are also available in the WCCLS catalog.

Tuesday Night Book Group

Tuesday Night Book Group

In-person - No registration required.

In April, we’re discussing the book “The Eleventh Man” by Ivan Doig. Copies of this book are limited. Ask in the library to see if copies are available.

Driven by the memory of a fallen teammate, TSU's 1941 starting lineup went down as legend in Montana football history, charging through the season undefeated. Two years later, the "Supreme Team" is caught up in World War II. Ten of them are scattered around the globe in the war's various lonely and dangerous theaters. The eleventh man, Ben Reinking, has been plucked from pilot training by a military propaganda machine hungry for heroes. He is to chronicle the adventures of his teammates, man by man, for publication in small-town newspapers across the country like the one his father edits. Ready for action, he chafes at the assignment, not knowing that it will bring him love from an unexpected quarter and test the law of averages, which holds that all but one of his teammates should come through the conflict unscathed.

Ever wondered how a play goes from first draft to audience-ready? Here’s your chance to watch the process and get involved!

We hosted the first table read in March, now it's time for the rehearsal and one more facilitated discussion where you can offer feedback and contribute ideas to a new holiday comedy!

Have Yourself a Murder-y Little Christmas (PG-13)

The Office meets Only Murders In the Building--with Santa!

Admit it. At one time or another, we’ve all had an officemate we wish would just…disappear. That’s certainly the case at the Acme Good Goods Co., where the small but mightily dysfunctional team is bravely trying to whip up some spirit at the annual holiday bash by hosting a murder mystery party.

But when the actor from Dickens Detectives shows up on cue, she discovers that the employee playing dead isn’t playing. As the snow piles up, so do the bodies—and the questions. Where is the big cash donation to Toys for Teetotalers? What’s the deal with the mysterious temp? What does the accountant keep in that drawer? And why has the office goldfish gone missing?

“The wickedly funny and talented Cindy Brown” (Mystery Playground) returns to her theatrical roots with this new full-length farce, partnering with the Garden Home Community Library and the fabulous folks from the Tesla City Stories to bring you a new laugh-out-loud farce.

Then don't miss the staged reading at the Fertile Ground Festival (April 14, 2-4 p.m. St. Luke Lutheran Church).
