Booklist Review

Siblings Akira and Minato have just moved to a new town and started school, and they notice right away that something is a little off about their new home. Strange creatures and occurrences are accepted as normal, and there's even a social hierarchy based upon who can see the best weird things. The siblings make some new friends and begin investigating and tracking what's been happening, hoping to find patterns and help a few of the creatures who may be in trouble. Shinya's overall style has fewer panels on the page and sparser dialogue than other mangaka, which creates more suspenseful scenes but leaves less room for character development. Akira and her friends suffer the most from lack of distinction in this volume, so hopefully they get some further definition in future volumes. Shinya's illustrative style is unique and intriguing, and the conflict in this first volume is interesting enough that readers will most likely need some resolution from a decently painful cliff-hanger. Fans of Children of the Sea, Your Forma, or Shinya's other work, Lost Lad London, will enjoy this.
