Program Description

Event Details

Members of the Whitman String Quartet return to South Country Library to present a variety of string trio music. The Whitman String Quartet was founded at Stony Brook University in 2015 and currently consists of doctoral graduates and professionals based on Long Island. The ensemble participated in the Philip Setzer String Quartet Intensive, and in the first class of the Emerson String Quartet Institute, studying in coaching and masterclass formats with all five recent members of the acclaimed Emerson String Quartet. The Whitman String Quartet has performed more standard string quartet works from composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dohnanyi, Debussy, and Bartok, as well as lesser known and more contemporary works with colleagues in various instrumentations by Zdenek Fibich, Rebecca Clarke, Paul Chihara, Eric Lemmon, Ben Ramey, and others.
