  • Short term counseling related to a variety of mental health and psychosocial needs: grief and bereavement, life transitions, domestic violence, substance use, hoarding/clutter, etc.
  • Assistance with resources like housing, heat and energy assistance, veteran's support, food insecurity, etc.
  • Helps assist with connection to long term mental health and substance use treatment and resources.

CIRCULATION NOTES
QUIET STUDY ROOM POLICY REMINDERS
In case you didn’t know, the library has three Quiet Study Rooms available to use for free! These rooms can be reserved in person or over the phone by calling us at (781) 545-8727. Quiet Study Rooms are not able to be booked online through the library’s website. Rooms can be reserved up to three times a week for a two-hour block of time; paid tutors are allowed to make one reservation a week for up to two hours. Rooms can accommodate a maximum of six people.
 
Here are some Quiet Study Room reminders:
  • If you are unable to make your reservation for a room, please contact the library to let us know. Our Quiet Study Rooms are very popular and your call enables someone else to use the room in your place. 
  • Rooms can be reserved for your use only. Please do not make reservations in another person’s name.
  • Arrive at your reserved time for Quiet Study Rooms. If you are over fifteen minutes late, we will cancel your reservation.

THOREAU'S WAYE GARDEN CELEBRATION
 
On September 30th we celebrated the opening celebration of the new Thoreau's Waye outdoor space. This project was a collaborative effort between the Goulding Family, the Community Preservation Committee, the Scituate Library Foundation, and the Scituate Town Library and designed with the hope that it will be an outdoor community gathering space for years to come. Many thanks to all involved in getting this project off the ground, and to all who attended the opening celebration. Be sure to check out the space next time you visit the library!

50+ JOB SEEKERS MEETINGS via ZOOM
The Scituate Town Library is pleased to participate in the Massachusetts Library Collaborative's 50+ Job Seekers Group. The Massachusetts Library Collaborative's 50+ Job Seekers Morning Group meets 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am, via Zoom.  There is also an evening option for the series that will meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays via Zoom.  
 
If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "Encore Career", this networking group program is perfect for you! Remember, 85% of jobs are found through networking! Each meeting features a new topic. Meetings include a presentation and hands-on workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and 1-on-1 coaching guidance.
 
Each biweekly meeting is facilitated by Deborah Hope, MBA, PCIC, an experienced executive career coach. Deborah is a former Fortune 500 executive, investment banker and entrepreneur and transitioned to executive coaching over 12 years ago. She has coached with Harvard Business School Executive Education programs, the Mass. Conference for Women, and has been trained or certified in a variety of coaching models and assessment tools.

Gravestone Girls Lecture

Join the Gravestone Girls in the Community Room at the Scituate Town Library for their adult-oriented presentation about New England cemetery art, history and symbolism. This lecture takes us from colonial burial grounds through the rural cemetery movement of the 19th century and into the 21st century. The Gravestone Girls tailor their lecture to Scituate’s cemeteries as they examine why we have cemeteries and gravestones, why they look like they do, and how styles and art have evolved over almost 400 years.

Have you noticed that your loved one seems different lately? There are lots of reasons why someone might experience cognitive decline. Join us online OR in person to learn about memory issues and what might be the cause.  It's not always Alzheimer's Disease or another dementia and if it is, we can help you know where to turn. Presented by Jennifer Hoadley, CDP, Regional Manager of Southeastern Massachusetts for the Alzheimer's Association MA/NH chapter.

Join us for a festive evening of hammering on metal! Metalsmith Heather Beck will teach you how to texture designs onto a copper or aluminum ornament that you will treasure for years to come.

ZOOM WITH A LAW LIBRARIAN
Did you know that the Trial Court Law Libraries have added Zoom to their reference services? 
 
Every Tuesday and Thursday from 1PM to 2PM, patrons from anywhere in Massachusetts can Zoom one-on-one with a law librarian for legal information about whatever legal situation they may be experiencing - they just can't give legal advice! Like their other reference services, they are happy to share law and case law, court forms and rules, information about court processes if available, and more!

"A Celtic Christmas" combines songs, tunes, history and stories from England, Ireland, and Scotland with the music of Christmas. Familiar, and some not so familiar, songs will have you singing, laughing and wishing for more when it's all over.
Jeff Snow is a multi-instrumentalist who shares the music, and the stories behind the music, from Scotland, England and Ireland. He plays the guitar, autoharp, and bouzouki.

    Introducing a new item in the Children’s Room—Comfort Kits!
    Library comfort kits can be used in the library (one kit stays in-house at all times) or borrowed from the Library of Things! Comfort kits are intended to help with a variety of sensory needs, and include things like mindfulness puzzles, a weighted lap blanket, noise-cancelling headphones, and other sensory toys to help facilitate a pleasant library experience.     LIBRARY OF THINGS SPOTLIGHT
    ORION STARBLAST TELESCOPE
     
     
     
    The Orion StarBlast telescope was generously donated to the Scituate Town Library by the South Shore Astronomical Society. It comes with a folding pocket seasonal star chart that glows in the dark, as well as the National Geographic guide to the night sky of North America.
     
    In addition to its convenient portability, this telescope's easy-to-use operation makes it very beginner friendly. Any user is able to enjoy bright and clear views of the Moon and planets, as well as distant objects like star clusters and galaxies!
