Main Library Join us for a Sunday afternoon concert in the beautiful historic Richardson Building featuring pianist Roman Rudnytsky. Roman Rudnytsky is an American concert pianist of Ukrainian background who has performed in 100 countries. A graduate of The Juilliard School in New York, he has been soloist with many orchestras and played in 50 countries through US Embassies as a cultural ambassador. He was a prizewinner in ten international and national piano competitions.

Sunday January 14 2 - 3:30 PM Main Library The seminar, co-hosted by QARI and Neeeco, features experts from HeatSmart Alliance and Eastern Bank. Thursday January 18 2 - 3 PM Main Library During this meeting Manet Community Health will be offering an Overdose Prevention training, concentrating on how to identify an Opioid overdose, how and when to use Narcan to reverse an overdose, and next steps to take once Narcan has been administered. We will also be supplying Narcan to anyone who is interested, and can answer any questions attendees may have.

Tuesday January 23 7 - 8 PM Main Library How does a forest tell a story? Through the years the Blue Hills Reservation has experienced many droughts, floods, and forest fires. All of these natural phenomena (and more) have an impact on plants and how they grow. With Debbie Merriam, the Executive Director of the Mary May Binney Arboretum, we’ll explore how the Blue Hills forests tell a detailed history of the land itself. We’ll be learning all about native and non-native plants and how they individually impact the greater ecosystem. This program is welcome to people of all ages!

Every Thursday at 1 PM join the Head Law Librarian at Brockton Law Library, Alexandra Bernson, for a virtual Zoom Q&A session. There are 15 Trial Court Law Libraries located across Massachusetts. Just like local public libraries, the law libraries are open to everyone. You can receive legal reference assistance, borrow books, and use print and electronic resources. This “Ask a Law Librarian” program is designed to provide the community with virtual access to many of these services.

Ages 3 - 5 years Monthly Event Each month activities, experiments and instructions will be provided on a different science topic you can do with your child. This month we're doing color activities. We'll be sorting colors, mixing colors, even separating colors out using markers and coffee filters.

Grades 4 - 6 Monthly Event, 3rd Wednesdays Wednesday, January 17 7 - 8 PM Wollaston Library No Registration Required ExPLORE (Experiment, Play, Learn, Observe, Read, Examine) is a series of monthly hands-on science workshops for children in grades 4-6. Each workshop has a short portion of instruction and then exploration and experimentation. Topics range from forensic science to bubbles and parents/caregivers are welcome to participate as well alongside their children. Get hands-on with circuitry! Learn about how an electrical circuit works, then build your own using Snap Circuits. Start simple by making a lightbulb turn on, then get fancy with more lights, sounds, and moving parts.

We’ll read stories, sing songs and play games all centered around the letter of the day, including our favorite game: Mystery Bag! We invite children in grades 3 and 4 to join us to discuss a chapter book or graphic novel on the second Thursday of each month. We’ll vote for upcoming titles at the end of each meeting. In January, we’ll get together discuss to discuss Knights vs Dinosaurs by Matt Phelan. Copies of the book are available to check out at the Main Library, as an ebook through Libby. Want your favorites displayed in the children's room? The Review Crew for 5-7th graders will meet on the third Thursday of each month at the Main Library to present and discuss our thoughts on library materials, write reviews, and put together a display to share our favorites with the rest of the children's room! In January, we’ll “judge a book by its cover.” Pick a book, movie, or video game to review based on its cover. What did you like about the cover? Was the rest of the book as good as you expected?
