The Cranium:
Drop-In Open Hours

Wednesdays  |  5 - 7 PM
Main Library
For All Ages
(Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult guardian)

Drop-In Open Hours allows guests to use the makerspace equipment for personal projects and or experimentation!

Please note that The Cranium has a maximum capacity of 12 during open hours, and on some occasions we do have to turn people away when that capacity is reached. We recommend planning ahead and reserving equipment in advance. Reserve ahead here. Use of an equipment must be completed by the end of your reservation time so as not to run over into the following reservation.

Additionally, staff cannot provide detailed, one-on-one instruction during open hours. However, The Cranium webpage does provide detailed tutorials and instructions on the equipment and any additional questions you may have can be directed to quref@ocln.org

Makerspace programs are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library.

The Cranium was supported by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the federal Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Adult Literacy & ESOL
ESOL Volunteers Needed!

The library's English Talk Time program is seeking volunteer facilitators to lead (or co-lead) our ESOL conversation classes. At this time, we are hoping to welcome people who have experience helping adults improve their English language skills. If you don't have experience, but are excited about the idea of working with our local immigrant community, please reach out.
Training will be provided!

A variety of teaching resources and assistance with lesson planning are available to our volunteers. For more information, please email Molly at quenglishtalk@ocln.org.

Call for Literacy Volunteers!

Consider becoming a volunteer literacy tutor. Literacy tutors are dedicated, patient, flexible, and encouraging volunteers who create a positive learning environment where adults can thrive and learn without embarrassment. No previous teaching experience is required. We provide extensive training and support!

Kids' Winter Reading Challenge (Read-And-Bead)
January 2 - February 28, 2025

Join us for our Kids' Winter Reading Challenge in January and February! This reading challenge is open to Thomas Crane Public Library cardholders who are between the ages of 0 - 13 years and their families. Track every 15 minutes of reading with a bead of your choice, to create a brag tag full to celebrate your winter of reading. The more you read, the fancier beads you can earn and trade up to, building up to the coveted 12-hour winter charm! Everyone will receive a special reading chart of winter characters to track their reading. If you're doing the reading or being read to, all reading counts! Stop by any library location beginning January 2nd to pick your tracker and bead necklace. Too little for beads? We have special sticker trackers for our youngest patrons. How many can you collect by February 28?
