As we welcome August and the final activities of a successful Summer Reading Program, Trustees also issue a warm welcome to Norwell’s new Town Administrator, Chad Lovett. We look forward to a positive working relationship as we all aim to maintain the highest quality of services, materials and programming.

What is a Library Trustee and what purpose does a Trustee serve? Trustees are elected public officials in Norwell. Trustees establish administrative and operational policies, approve and support the Library budget, participate in strategic planning and Library advocacy. In the past few issues, we have focused on the budget process and other sources of income. Library advocacy is another important role for Trustees, not only in the budget process, but also in defense of your Freedom to Read. To do that effectively, Trustees keep informed about state and federal programs, attend webinars or conferences and utilize the resources of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. In future issues we will elaborate more on this role.
