It's Spring - FINALLY!!

After the Blizzard of '26, we're more than ready for some springtime fun!  Everything from the return of the Peep Dioramas, Our subscription "Kaboom!" Book Boxes, and exciting programs - March is going to be AMAZING at the Library!

Peep Diorama Competition is Back!!
Monday, March 2, 10:00 am
 
Starting Monday, March 2nd - Take a shoebox and some peeps (2 packages free at the Children's Room desk while supplies last) and create a diorama! We're looking for book, movie, or TV-themed displays -- and folks, it's ALL AGES!! Where are our teen and adult entries?!!

Bring your finished project in by March 27 - we'll display them through April 18.  And OF COURSE there are prizes!!

Story Time (3-4 year olds)
Monday mornings: March 9, 16, 23 & 30 at 10:15 am
 
Listen to a picture book, then do a simple craft.  Three- and four-year-olds are generally not accompanied by caregivers.

Patty Cake (newborn - 17 months)

Nursery rhymes with movement, board books, big books, finger plays and more for babies newborn to 17 months with a parent/caregiver.

Children's Yoga Class

Miss Christine from Little Bee Yoga Co. is excited to share the magic of yoga with John Curtis Library families!!  Each class is 45 minutes. The class is geared toward children ages three to six years, but all ages are welcome to participate.  Please bring a yoga mat or towel.

Take a look around the Children's Room for the hidden baby farm animals!  If you find one, bring it to the check out desk - you'll get 'book sale money' for a free children's book!

Felted Leprechaun

For Teens (13+) AND Adults!!  
 
Meet your new lucky charm! In this needle felting workshop, you’ll create a leprechaun gnome complete with a ginger beard and a tiny felted pipe with wisps of smoke. Learn the satisfying basics of needle felting as you sculpt wool into a character full of personality. Perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike, this cozy project is relaxing and fun. Learn the joy of needle felting with Pop up Art School in a friendly environment. You'll gain the basic skills of needle felting, walking away with a finished piece, and the confidence to continue your felting journey independently.

Have you heard about our subscription boxes?  You select the genre - we select a NEW book book and package it up with some goodies!  The book and box must be returned; you get to keep the extras.
 
Sign up for just one month or subscribe for multiple!  They are available for check out on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (March 11).  
Massachusetts Center for the Book Reading Challenge

Did you know that we partner with the MA Center for the Book?  They sponsor a monthly reading challenge - break out of your normal genre and try something new!
 
Postcards listing the monthly themes are available at the adult circulation desk.  We know that picture is hard to read; if you're interested, March's theme is "A book featuring an unlikely friendship."

Enjoy a look at the life and career of this Academy Award-nominated director and Emmy Award-winning actor. Led by Frank Mandosa, a film historian and Massachusetts high school Film and English teacher. He is the host of "Reels of Cinema" podcast and co-host of the "Movies Across The Pod" podcast.

VIRTUAL: John Singer Sargent -- A Masterful Stroke Of Genius

Learn how the gifted artist John Singer Sargent began a promising career, primarily as a portrait painter in Paris, until a scandal in 1884 caused him to decamp France and move to England where he contemplated giving up portrait painting, until he found his way once again, becoming internationally famous during the Gilded Age art world of the late 1880's, running through the first quarter of the 20th century. Led by artist Neill Slaughter, Professor Emeritus at Long Island University. He has taught fine arts courses at the university level as well as exhibited his drawings and paintings nationally and internationally for more than forty years.
