Spring has sprung - finally!!
And things are hopping at the Library! Everything from Space Week to Peep Dioramas ;-> We decided to try to change things up this month to help make the newsletter a bit more readable. We'll be sending them bi-monthly; let us know what you think!

Peep Diorama Contest Month!!
Pick up your free package of peeps (one per entry while supplies last) starting Monday, April 7. Design a diorama using your peeps -- book, TV, or movie themed, please ;-> Then bring your Diorama to the Library before April 25. Prizes will be awarded! Judging will take place April 30 in three categories: kids, teens, and adults!

Children's Yoga Class Monday mornings, April 7 and 14 at 11:00 pm Miss Christine from Little Bee Yoga Co. is excited to share the magic of yoga with John Curtis Library families!! Partner with your little yogi in super fun poses, games, music, stories, breathing exercises, meditation, and guided relaxations that help to strengthen their bodies, minds and souls... We'll bark in downward dog, meow in cat pose and roar in lion pose while we take a yoga journey that you and your child will never forget! This fun class provides a beautiful bonding experience between the adult and child. Each class is 45 minutes. The class is geared toward children ages three to six years, but all ages are welcome to participate. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Drop-in; no registration needed.

VIRTUAL: Nature Travel to Canada Tuesday, April 1 at 2:00 pm Bill Gette has led five organized natural history travel adventures to Manitoba, Canada. His itineraries included visits to beautiful areas in the southern part of the province and to the province’s far northern port of Churchill. During this trip, he and his participants visited the Oak Hammock Marsh located a short distance north of Winnipeg; the small village of Pinawa near the Ontario border; the Delta Beach area on Lake Manitoba; and Riding Mountain National Park. In Churchill, located on Hudson Bay, Bill explored the vast tundra looking for nesting birds and other wildlife. Bill will share his photographs of nesting songbirds (Yellow-headed Blackbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, Sedge Wren); shorebirds (Upland Sandpiper, Wilson’s Snipe, Red-necked Phalarope, Short-billed Dowitcher, Hudsonian Godwit); mammals (Red Fox, Black Bear, Beluga Whale); and beautiful wildflowers. Gette, who has been leading travel programs for Mass Audubon since 1986, is the retired Director of the Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport. Monday, April 7 at 7:00 pm Join the growing number of people who are buying their produce, meats, and dairy products from local farms! Not only are they fresher and organic, supporting our local farms creates a more sustainable eco-system. Sure, you might not get raspberries in December, but when you get them in August, they will be the best tasting raspberries you could ever have! This panel of farmers will help us understand the benefits of shopping locally grown AND give us suggestions for reputable growers in our area. VIRTUAL: Behind the Headlines - Bird Flu Monday, April 7 at 7:00 pm Dr. Catherine (“Katie”) Brown is the Massachusetts State Epidemiologist and Public Health Veterinarian, and current President of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. She plays a key role at the state and national level in monitoring and responding to infectious disease threats, and has been involved with avian influenza for over 20 years. She will give a clear and authoritative overview of the nation's current situation and the risk that avian influenza presents. You know them as the Two Nerdy History Girls - authors Loretta Chase and Susan Holloway Scott were the originators of the infamous blog. We, once again, have Loretta and Susan here to answer all of our burning questions. How do they find interesting tidbits of historical lore, which libraries of the world have they visited, and how do they avoid the inescapable "rabbit hole"? Whether you like to paint, draw, or sketch, we invite you to put one of your creations up on the board and take one that you like. Please spread the word! The board is for patrons of all ages!
