VIRTUAL: Early Rock Song Origins (Parts 1 & 2)
Friday, September 20 & 27 at 2:00 pm

We’re all familiar with many outstanding songs from the early days of Rock and Roll such as Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender,” The Flamingos’ “I Only Have Eyes For You,” and “Night” by Jackie Wilson. What is less known, and often little appreciated, is that the melodies for those songs, as well as many others recorded during the 50’s and ‘60’s, were written decades or in some cases centuries earlier and have their roots in classical music, grand opera, or Broadway shows. Relive a dozen or so examples of songs in this category, compare them to the original version, and examine how the adaption from classical themes to Rock 'n Roll standards was accomplished so successfully. Led by Rich Knox, a retired school teacher and administrator, who lectures on musicals, films, and opera to libraries across the country.

VIRTUAL: Author Talk with Heather Wolf, Find More Birds
Monday, September 23 at 7:00 pm

We had so much fun discussing birding with Heather back in April, that we had to do it again but with a twist. This time, one of our favorite speakers, author Heather Wolf will be discussing how to find and identify more birds by picking a "patch," a place close to home where you can watch birds often. She'll be giving tips on how to pick a patch and how to use it not only as a "classroom" to become a better birder, but also as a way to connect more deeply with the nature that surrounds you.

VIRTUAL: The Place of the Muses - A Brief History of Museums
Thursday, September 26 at 10:30 am

It would seem as though museums have always been around, but in truth, they’re a fairly recent phenomenon. Beginning with the early proto-museums of the Renaissance, this compact yet comprehensive discussion traces the development of public art institutions, from the “wonder rooms” of the Age of Exploration up through modern times -- including the discovery of ancient world’s only known museum in 6th-century BC Mesopotamia. Led by Gene Wisniewski, author of "The Art of Looking at Art." He received his art education at Rutgers University, the New York Academy of Art, The National Academy of Design, The New School, and L’Ecole Albert Defois in Vihiers, France.
