Children's Yoga Class Monday mornings at 11:00 am Miss Christine from Little Bee Yoga Co. is excited to share the magic of yoga with John Curtis Library families!! Partner with your little yogi in super fun poses, games, music, stories, breathing exercises, meditation, and guided relaxations that help to strengthen their bodies, minds and souls... We'll bark in downward dog, meow in cat pose and roar in lion pose while we take a yoga journey that you and your child will never forget! This fun class provides a beautiful bonding experience between the adult and child. Each class is 45 minutes. The class is geared toward children ages three to six years, but all ages are welcome to participate. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Drop in; no registration required.

Chess Club (ages 6 & up) Monday, March 10 & 24 at 6:00 pm Doug Southall leads a chess club for children age six and older, approximately every two weeks. Each meeting will begin with a brief lesson on some aspect of the game, followed by free play. Drop in; no registration required.

VIRTUAL: Boston Light - Three Centuries of History Monday, March 10 at 7:00 pm Based on Jeremy's book, Boston Light: Three Centuries of History, this talk focuses on Boston Light Station, the site of the first lighthouse on the North American continent. Jeremy will trace its history through three centuries of tragedy, rescues, and colorful human interest stories of keepers and their families. As you may know, Jeremy D'Entremont is one of our very favorite speakers so we hope you'll join us for for another great discussion! Jeremy D'Entremont is the president and historian of the American Lighthouse Foundation, historian for the U.S. Lighthouse Society, and the author of more than 20 books and hundreds of articles on lighthouses and maritime history. He's the producer and host of the U.S. Lighthouse Society's podcast, Light Hearted. He has appeared on the popular Ghost Hunters TV show, as well as Haunted Lighthouses of America on the Travel Channel. VIRTUAL: Author Talk with Carla Kelly Monday, March 24 at 7:00 pm We always have so much fun with Carla that, by popular demand, we're having her back! Once again, we'll be talking about Carla's early books as well as her American Historicals and her latest book of Christmas stories, Regency Glad Tidings as well as A Naval Surgeon to Fight For. Carla may yet have some surprises for us! Oh, wait, there's more! Carla is also a former seasonal ranger in the National Park Service. We hope to see our romance, history, and nature buffs again! Award-winning author Carla Kelly is a veteran of the New York and international publishing world. Carla is best known for her Regency Romances, those novels of manner and wit, made popular more than two centuries ago by Jane Austen. Carla has made certain types of Regencies her own, particularly novels and stories about people who are not lords and ladies. Many of them are hard-working and hard-fighting members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in the Channel Fleet, and the British Army on the Spanish Peninsula. VIRTUAL: The Memoir of Ilse Seger with professor Melissa Kravetz Monday, March 24 at 7:00 pm The Memoir of Ilse Seger: Wife, Mother, Hostage, Nazi Resister is a gripping narrative of adventure and intrigue about the wartime life and resistance of an ordinary, decent woman. Elisabeth "Ilse" Seger was the wife of Gerhart Heinrich Seger, a German Social Democratic member of the Reichstag from 1930 to 1933. Ilse tells Gerhart's story, but more importantly, she tells her own story: of her early resistance to the Nazi regime as a political opponent herself; of her solidarity with the Jews during the early years of Nazi persecution; of her defiance of expectations for women at the time; of her time as a hostage alongside her daughter, Renate, in Rosslau concentration camp and how they got out with help from members of Parliament; and, lastly, of her first years living in exile in France and Switzerland as her husband went on an anti-fascist speaking tour in the US. Melissa Kravetz is Associate Professor of History and Co-Director of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Longwood University. She also teaches at The Alexander Lebenstein Teacher Education Institute at the Virginia Holocaust Museum.
