Tabb and Yorktown Libraries will be closed on Sunday, April 20, 2025 for Easter Sunday. Our digital collection is always available, though, so visit our online resources through our website or through OverDrive. See our full list of upcoming closures on our Closing & Holidays web page.

For those events that require registration, note that registration opens the Monday of the week before each event. Register online via our online calendar. An email address is required to register. Travel around the world to hear songs, stories, and learn about friends all over the globe.  It's a fun-filled tour that's filled with puppets, music, and dance. In France, we meet Mother Goose and her friends.  In England, we meet "Punch and Judy.” In Italy, we celebrate the opera with THE THREE LITTLE PIGS OPERA. In Africa, we meet a hungry crocodile and then join a team of soccer players who teach how important it is the make good decisions. In Norway we hear the tale of THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF. And that’s just the beginning. There are many more stops along the way! Presented through generous support from the Newport News Arts Commission, the Virginia Arts Commission, and the York County Arts Commission. While supplies last, special gift to all attendees from Wingstop Charities.

The Teeny Tiny Farm is "paws-itively" coming to Tabb Library! The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office is proud to offer the EZ Child ID Digital Fingerprinting System, a comprehensive service that captures your child's fingerprints, photo, medical information, and a video. Parents will receive a printout of the fingerprint and a flash drive containing all recorded information. Rest assured, this sensitive data is never stored; it is immediately deleted from the computer once the flash drive is provided. Each child's session lasts approximately 10 minutes. To reserve a spot, please sign up each child individually. Upon arrival, parents should sign in, and children will be taken in the order they arrive. For any questions, please contact Deputy Kevin Taylor at the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office at 757-890-3639.

Any child who has not yet started Kindergarten is invited to participate in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at the Tabb or Yorktown Library. Following a building code and using balsa wood and glue provided, each student will build the strongest bridge they can to span a 250 mm length with a minimum width of 50 mm. We will weigh the bridges and then test their strength. Several awards will be given. Be prepared for bridge failures while we learn engineering. Registration is required.

Volunteer Opportunities 
 
Looking for ways to volunteer this summer? YCPL has opportunities for rising 7th-12th graders to volunteer and help with our Summer Reading Program: “Color Our World”.

Summer Reading Program Teen Volunteer Applications
Teen volunteer applications for the Summer Reading Program will be available starting Monday, April 14, and will be due by Sunday, May 18. You can find applications on our website or at any YCPL Youth Services desk. Teen volunteers, along with their parent or guardian, must attend one of the following orientations:
  • Tuesday, June 3, at Tabb Library from 5:30-6:30 PM
  • Saturday, June 7, at Yorktown Library from 10:30-11:30 AM
Additionally, applications for school year volunteer positions will be available starting August 11 and will run through March 2026. All teens participating in YCPL programs or events, including volunteers, must complete a 2025 teen permission form, which can be found on our website or at the Youth Services desks at both Tabb and Yorktown libraries. We can’t wait to see you this summer!
 
2025 Teen Program Permission Forms 
The Teen Program Permission Form for 2025 now available. All teen volunteers and any teen who would like to participate in any teen programs at the library during the year 2025 will need to complete a new form. Additional note:  Teen gaming will still be a drop in program; however, a form is required. One form covers events at both branches. This form is available at the Youth Services desk at each branch and on the YCPL website's Teen Page.

100 Books Before Graduation

Can you take on the challenge of reading 100 Books before Graduation? This challenge is open to students in 6th-12th grade. Earn prizes for every 25 books you read! Registration is open and all logging will be done through Beanstack. Just create or log in to your Beanstack account and the option to enroll in the challenge will be available to all teens. Prizes available at either location.

Kanopy Kids is a kid-friendly collection from Kanopy that offers educational and entertaining videos for children. Content includes animated storybooks and read-alongs, popular PBS Kids shows such as Reading Rainbow and Sesame Street, language learning, and much more. The service offers unlimited streaming of all Kids content.
But the service isn't just for kids! Kanopy is an award-winning film streaming service that offers over 30,000 of the world’s best films, including documentaries, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema. Library cardholders have 30 tickets per month. The number of tickets required and viewing period for each film is next to the play button.
