FROM LOUISA'S SPRING TRAVELS

Norma from Eaglesham getting her retirement recognition from Carolyn Kolebaba, PLS board chair, on her retirement after 49 years of service.

Parkland's 65th anniversary, both Louisa, CEO of Peace Library System and James, CEO of Northern Lights Library System, were there, as well as their local MLA.

 Slave Lake Public Library

The Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library and Slave Lake and Area Mental Health are building momentum with the Human Library Program. We come together and listen to locals tell their stories about various topics while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.

The photo on the left is Bruce Beamer talking to us all about his travel experience. The photo on the right is Everett Iverson and Pearl Lorentze telling us all about their experience with organ donation. We look forward to continuing this program into the summer months outdoors at a local park.

The Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library and Slave Lake and Area Mental Health Network collaborate to raise awareness and knowledge about different cultures and traditions in our community.

For the third consecutive year we brought a Ramadan Story and Craft and presented it to our local schools and our local residents.

We also bring our Easter Bunny to visit the Seniors at Vanderwell Lodge,  they look forward to taking pictures with the Easter Bunny and getting a little treat.

We love collaborating with our schools, so for Parent Teacher Interviews we attended and setup a STEAM THEMED presentation and told the students all about our S.T.E.A.M. Library options.

We attended our primary school Parent Teacher interview as well and their theme was all about wellness. So we made breathing wands and told them the importance of mindful breathing and making good decisions while at school.

Overall it was a very busy couple of months and we look forward to our Summer Programs commencing in June and July.

Drug Mart Mothers’ Day Mayhem

Peace River hosted its first Value Drug Mart Mothers’ Day Mayhem.  The library closed for regular service on Saturday, May 11th and welcomed several families eager to nerf one another.

An extension of our biweekly Nerf Wars program, families were provided Nerf guns and ammunition and were led in a series of games: Family v. Family, Parents v. Kids, Girls v. Boys etc. in capture-the-flag nerf wars in the library.  Complete with a Nerf backdrop for family photos, this program was a blast for all who attended.  Happy Mothers’ Day: Nerf Your Kids ;)

Lego Club

Who else has blinked and now we are in sight of June?!?!

Our winter/spring program calendar was busy as always, and normally we start to see a lull in April and May. This year, not so much! I believe it is due to the slow coming of spring. We won’t complain!

Origami, Kawaii Sewing Club, Builder’s Club, 3D Printing Club, Stay & Play, Sensory Time, Adult crafters Corner, Beginner Adult Crocheting, After School Crafters, Teen Crochet Corner, Drop-In Lego, and our newest The Mother Load Class kept us hoping.

Seniors' Outreach: Wood Burning

Crochet Club

Oragami Club

We did of course throw a few pop-up special event days in there. Things like Earth Day, Mother’s Day Event, Super Hero Day, and a few Game Days. Our newest program The Mother Load Class is slow to take off but we won’t give up on it yet. This particular group focuses on mom’s chatting (or venting), asking advice from fellow moms, connecting, and we have scheduled guest speakers attend monthly. We are thinking of carrying this one through summer, if the moms would like.

Silverware Wind Chimes

Superhero Day

Summer programming has commenced. “To The Stars” has taken on a very broad outlook. Things like Rock”Stars”, “Star”fruit, and aliens have been added to my programming days! To say I am over the moon with excitement, is an understatement! Our Kick Off and registration will happen on June 13 at the community Summer Program Kick-Off. We can’t wait to get the kids all hyped up.

We are getting ready to plant the library community gardens. Always a great time of year, and one more way we help out our community!

Wishing all our companion libraries a fabulous summer!
