Hello South Country Community,
 
Adults, learn about the King of Ragtime, Scott Joplin, at this presentation on Zoom. And do you play bridge? Join us on Fridays starting March 1. (no meeting March 8)  See more of our upcoming programs here.
 
Families with children, our Jar of Hearts contest ends next Thursday, followed by our Crayon Scavenger Hunt for March. Registration for our March in-person programs begins Friday, March 1.
 
Tweens, join us this Thursday for bowling on the Wii.
 
Teens, this Friday, have a slice of pizza while your enjoy Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. And next week, make your own Pokéball.
 
Many of our March-April programs for Adults and Teens begin registration this Monday, February 26, at 9:30 AM. At that time, this link will bring you to our March-April newsletter (for now, it's Jan-Feb) where you'll be able to read about all of our upcoming programs.

P.S. Starting on Friday, March 1st, Solar Eclipse Glasses will be available to South Country Library cardholders for the April 8 Eclipse. Glasses will be available at the Patron Services desk while supplies last.
 
Tax Assistance
Wednesdays: March 13 and April 10. Registration required.
Open to all (cardholders and non-cardholders)

Community Resource Fair
Wednesday, March 20, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
 
We'll be hosting an array of organizations from our area that can help you. Each organization will have a table located in the main corridor of our building where they can showcase their various programs and services.
 
 
Oscars 2024 Contest
 
Are you a movie buff and love the Academy Awards? From now until March 9, submit your predictions for the major award categories. The participant who guesses the most award categories correctly will be the winner.
The winner will receive a gift card to the Plaza Cinema in Patchogue and a copy of the book Oscar Wars by Michael Schulman. Be sure to tune into the Oscars on Sunday, March 10th to see who wins!

Museum Passes & Discount Tickets
The Library offers free passes to 20 museums on Long Island & in NYC.
We also provide access to discounted tickets to the Long Island Aquarium & the Bronx Zoo. Learn more here!

Community Mental Health Support
Every 1st Wednesday of the month. Next date: March 6.
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the main corridor.
A representative from the YES nonprofit's Community Mental Health Promotion & Support team will be here to inform patrons about their mental health services. Stop by for free giveaways! Visit the YES website for more.

Personal Care Community Cabinet and Give or Take Food Pantry
 
If you are able, please donate items such as shampoo, soap, gloves, socks, period products, dental products, and/or non-perishable, unexpired food.
 
The Community Cabinet and Food Pantry donation bin are located in the lobby.
 
 
Sign Up to be a Literacy Volunteer
Are you interested in helping an English speaker learn to read and write? The Library is looking for volunteers with instructional experience. You can open countless doors for 
someone else by offering the gift of literacy. Interested persons should complete this application and contact Jack in the Reference Department at 631-286-0818 ext 1.

The Library has a Notary Public
Available Mondays through Fridays (subject to change).

Fee: $2.00 per notarized signature
 
We are not able to notarize wills, mortgages, or sales of property.  All documents must be in English. You must have a valid New York State driver’s license or identification card. You may use a valid United States passport but must also have proof of residence that shows your current address. No post office boxes.

Passport Services by Appointment
We serve first-time applicants, minor applicants, adult applicants whose most recent passport was issued as a minor, and applicants who have lost their passports. 
Hours are by appointment only.

There is a separate process for that by mail.

Renew or Apply for a New Library Card on Our Website
South Country Library patrons may renew their card or apply for a new one online. Images of photo ID and address verification are required. Or visit our Patron Services desk at the front of the library for the same service.

Services for Veterans and Job-Seekers
Helps veterans and their families navigate the VA bureaucracy, provides academic tutoring, and assists with employment transition.
Provides various tools to help with every step of the job search including résumé assistance, interview preparation, and career planning.
Each service provides live virtual assistance every day
from 2:00 - 11:00 PM. A current library card is required.
