Young Adult: Adventure Begins at Your Library!
June 24 - August 17
Looking for something fun to do this summer? Join South Country Library’s Summer Reading Club, where reading reaps rewards. You can read or listen to books, e-books, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels and comic books. Earn chances to win cool raffle prizes just by reading and attending programs this summer! Children's: Adventure Begins at the Library!
June 24 - August 17
For children newborn through going into 5th grade. Sign up at the Children's Desk to get a reading record and get your name on the bulletin board. Sign up any time. Then read or listen to books, AND visit the library once per week to get a weekly prize. Prizes started the week of July 1. Children should read or listen for at least 20 minutes per week to earn a prize. For every hour beyond the minimum, children will earn a weekly raffle ticket, limit of 3 tickets per week. PLUS, only Summer Reading Club participants will be invited to the Summer Finale Raffle at the end of the club to try to pick a free book and try to win great prizes! Click here for more information.

Suffolk County Public Libraries Summer Tour
July 1 - August 31
 
Pick up your Suffolk Summer Library Tour booklet between July 1st and August 31st from a Suffolk County Library. Take the booklet with you as you visit any of the libraries listed in it. When you visit a library, find their wooden artifact and write what is in the space provided. Then show your booklet at the library's Summer Stamp Station to receive your stamp. On the tour, you'll see new sites, explore new libraries, and have the chance to be entered into exciting raffles!
5 Library Stamps: Earns one entry into a raffle for a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card.
15 Library Stamps: Earns one entry into a raffle for a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card.

25 Library Stamps: Earns one entry into a raffle for a Nook & $25 Barnes & Noble gift card.
Anyone who completes 25 library visits will receive a Summer Library Tour Patch!* Once you hit each of the above milestones, show it to a library staff member and they will give you a raffle ticket to fill out. A Trip to Safety Town [Grades 2nd-5th AND an adult]
Wednesday, July 10, 9:15am - 11:30am

For grades 2nd-5th (minimum 7 years old) AND an adult. Learn about traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian safety using bicycles and miniature electric vehicles. Meet at Safety Town at the Holtsville Ecology Center at 9:15 am. Click here to sign up.
We thank Safety Town and the Town of Brookhaven for accommodating us. They do have some requirements. 
  • Children must be at least 7 years old by time of program
  • Children must wear sneakers and a bicycle helmet to participate 
  • Siblings who are not registered and/or are not the proper age range cannot participate 
  • Parents are expected to stay on site in the foyer, the zoo or the park

Meet with Town Clerk Kevin J. LaValle

The Town Clerk’s Office is frequently considered the center of town government. The services offered by this office touch upon the most joyous, intimate, and somber times in the lives of our residents with the issuance of Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificates. Other offered services are designed to assist Town residents in their time of need, such as Parking Permits for Persons with Disabilities, and help celebrate life and history along the way, such as Amusement and Special Event Permits. 
Town Clerk Kevin J. LaValle will host mobile office hours at the South Country Library Thursday, July 25th from 11:00am - 4:00pm. Please join him as he will connect with town residents, answer questions, and communicate important information about the town. 
Some topics to be discussed:
  • Disabled parking passes
  • Marriage licenses/marriage officiants
  • Birth certificates
  • Death certificates
  • Dog licenses
Unfortunately, they will not be able to issue passes or certificates at this event because of privacy laws but they will be able to assist you getting the process started.  Please feel free to call (631) 451-9101 if you have any questions about the event. This event is in partnership with Assemblyman Joe DeStefano's office and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office. Stop by the drop off station in the library’s lobby to drop off unwanted or expired medications.
Looking to get rid of unwanted or expired medications in a way that is safe and protects our environment? Drop them off for safe disposal by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office. Safely disposing of medication prevents pollution of our ground water and keeps them out of the hands of young children and others who might abuse them. Because our June 13 outdoor concert was rained out, we rescheduled Captain Jack for September. The library is pleased to welcome back Captain Jack, a professional Billy Joel Tribute Band consisting of some of the tri-state area's top musicians. The band, in every performance, captures the "live concert" arrangements of these timeless hits which captivated tens of thousands to Billy Joel concerts. In addition, Captain Jack performs several "B" sides and rare album cuts in its shows, making it the most complete tribute to this amazing artist. Every Captain Jack is packed with the same energy, passion and fan Interaction of a Billy Joel concert.

Stop at the Patron Services Desk of the library to get a Gateway voucher for 50% off the show Escape to Margaritaville. Follow the voucher instructions to purchase discounted tickets online. Limit of 10 tickets per voucher, not valid for premium seats, limited to current/specific show, while supplies last.
 
The Adventure Park at Long Island:
 
Available for sale at the Patron Services Desk, while supplies last. Library Price: $39.00 each. These are open-ended tickets with no expiration date. Reservations are not necessary, but are strongly recommended. To book a reservation, use the voucher code on the ticket. Be sure to check The Adventure Park at Long Island website for ages, hours, and procedures.
 
Museum Passes and Discount Tickets
 
The Library offers free passes to participating museums around Long Island and New York City. Are you interested in helping an English speaker learn to read and write? The Library is looking for volunteers with instructional experience. We are not able to notarize wills, mortgages, or sales of property.  All documents must be in English. You must have a valid New York State driver’s license or identification card. You may use a valid United States passport but must also have proof of residence that shows your current address. No post office boxes.
