HOLBROOK PUBLIC LIBRARY
JUNE 2025
“At midnight, in the month of June, I stand beneath the mystic moon.”
― Edgar Allan Poe

The arrival June means that along with the return of warm days & school vacation we have the return of our Summer Reading program! This year, we have added a couple of new twists to our program that we are excited about sharing with all of you.

We know Holbrook loves a competition so we have set ourselves a challenge of having all of our participants reading minutes reach 100,000 total minutes!  Do you think that we can work together to beat that total?

We are also kicking off the 2025-2026 Student Reading Challenge with the Mass Center for the Book in late June!  It is a great way to get your summer reading minutes as well as to earn entries into a raffle sponsored by the Mass Center for the Book.   There will also be small prizes awarded every 4 months for participating each month in this year long challenge.

All the details for Summer Reading and the Student Reading Challenge will be announced later this month!

News From the Friends of the Holbrook Library
          and the Holbrook Library Foundation
We want to thank the Holbrook Public Library Foundation for their generous funding of the recent interior painting of the library!  It has made the space so bright and really makes it feel more spacious.  If you want to help find funding for future library improvements, the Foundation is looking for additional members.  Information can be found on their website.

We are grateful for The Friends of the Holbrook Public Library for  generously providing the funding to support our Summer Reading prizes.  With the money raised through their Book Alley sales and the great raffles baskets, the Friends provide financial support for many of our year round programs and events.  They will be running another raffle basket in June to help kickoff your summer!  If you are interested in joining the Friends, you can find more information on their page on the library website.

                             Library News
The Library will be closed on June 19th for the Juneteenth holiday.  There will be a small event scheduled on that day, "Reading Frederick Douglass Together"  which is being made possible by a grant from the Mass Humanities Council.  Details will be available soon. We hope to see you on Juneteenth!

We have a new addition to our therapy dog visit schedule!  You can sign up to Read to Polar Bear on Thursdays between 4pm - 5pm or drop in on Wednesdays between 10:30-11:15 to visit with Lucky!

Our friends on the Holbrook Cultural Council has asked us to share the schedule for the Summer Concert Series.  Funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, these concerts are a fun way to spend a summer Sunday night!
