As a teen, learning positive ways to handle money can help set you up for a bright and successful future.  However, most of us are not born knowing how to manage money, and not everyone is taught at a young age how to handle money matters. Luckily, the library has some fantastic teen resources to help teach you how to manage that influx of cash from your first job. Read on to learn more.

April is Arab American Heritage Month, a time to commemorate the history and culture of the Arab community. Our collection features several titles from Arab and Arab American authors. Read on for a list of titles for children, teens, and adults that highlights their stories.   

Earth Day, April 22, encourages us to appreciate the beauty of the environment and challenges us to take steps to protect it, and Arbor Day, April 25, reminds us of the importance of trees to the health of our planet. This April, head to the library to discover books for all ages about how we can play our part in the planet’s preservation.  

Our public libraries are strong supporters of the importance of early learning. There are several tools and resources you can use to strengthen your child’s literacy, including singing. Read on for more about simple practices you can start today.

July 4, 2026, will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and in anticipation of this milestone, HCPL is excited to announce a new program series supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250). Using textiles as a lens to explore America’s history both past and present, we invite you to join us for demonstrations, hands-on learning, and presentations from local groups, artists, and historians.
