Letter to the Community

Welcome 2026! And with the New Year comes some wonderful additions to the Greenburgh Public Library.

The three new Study Pods have finally been installed in the upstairs Swoop – the quiet area of the Library. The Pods (two -4-person capacity and one -6-person capacity) are soundproof, allowing patrons to hold small-group activities, work on

personal devices, and have conversations and interviews in an enclosed structure that won’t interfere with the quiet of the Swoop study area. They will be available to Library card holders in good standing for “check out” for a limited amount of time per visit. The Study Pods were made possible, in part, by a donation received from Universal Studios' “Disclosure Day” movie scene, which was filmed on the Library premises last March. Also, a big thanks to the Friends of the Library for donating the remaining funds to make the purchase of three Pods possible. See the Library’s Study Pod page for more information.

Some of you may have noticed that on Monday, January 5th, the Library did not close at 5 pm but remained open until 8:30 pm. The Library has added three and a half additional hours per week, open to the public. The new hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 9:30 am to 8:30 pm, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 9:30 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 to 5 pm. Monday is our third busiest day of the week for families to attend with their children and for students to extend their study time. For a listing of Library hours and Holiday Closings, visit the Library Welcome page for more information.

We hope you make the Library one of your most frequently visited and favorite places to be in 2026! Have a Happy and Healthy New Year.

New Hours

We are now open three nights a week - Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!

Year-End Donation Drive Summary

In late 2025, the library solidified its role as a vital community hub by hosting three successful donation drives that provided essential support to neighbors and local youth. Through collaborations with the Greenburgh Teen Task Force, Sewa Diwali, and the Hartsdale Rotary Club,

the Library facilitated the collection of non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving meals and food pantry supplies, and holiday gifts for over 1,000 children in the Westchester County foster care and social service systems. These initiatives not only addressed food insecurity and seasonal needs but also reinforced the library’s commitment to civic engagement, proving that collective community action can bring profound joy and care to those in need during the holiday season.

Holiday Recess at GPL

Greenburgh Public Library buzzed with energy as we hosted an array of creative programs during the 2025-2026 school holiday recess. From immersive mystery-solving and high-energy fandom celebrations to festive crafts and family puzzles, the library served as a lively destination for patrons of all ages to connect and create. These events highlighted the incredible talent of our Teen Advisory Board and our dedication to offering engaging, community-driven experiences throughout the season.

Mystery Night, an interactive program for teens, transformed the library into the setting of a fictional whodunit centered on the mysterious case of Dr. Ima Gonner. Participants worked individually and in teams to gather clues and solve the mystery while library staff and volunteers portrayed suspects throughout the space. The event was made possible by the library’s Teen Advisory Board, whose members helped develop the storyline and activities, and was well-received as a creative, teen-led program that encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and engagement with the library.

On December 30th, fans of all ages joined us for our Kpop Demon Hunter Party! Together we viewed a sing-along version of the movie while creating charm bracelets, making our own Kpop photo cards, or getting a Huntrix inspired face painting design. Thanks for coming out to show the Greenburgh Library "How it's Done Done Done!"

Beyond these featured events, the Library remained a hub of activity throughout the winter recess with programs designed for every interest. From collaborative puzzle sessions and creative crafting to stories, movies, and music, kids and teens had endless opportunities to stay engaged during the break. The festivities reached a high point with our annual “Noon Year’s Eve” party, providing a high-energy space for families to celebrate the arrival of 2026 together. We are dedicated to offering vibrant, appealing programming year-round, so be sure to monitor our online calendar for all the exciting events still to come this year.

Local History

As the nation approaches the Semiquincentennial anniversary of the Revolutionary War, the Library has joined forces with Revolutionary Westchester 250 (a non-profit organization dedicated to commemorating the pivotal role Westchester County played in the American Revolution and the founding of the United States), and the Odell Rochambeau Museum to host a series of expert speakers and presentations throughout 2026. These programs offer patrons an immersive look at the local events and figures that shaped the struggle for independence, bringing national history home to our community.

From Philipsburg to Yorktown: How a Six-Week Encampment Changed the War

"From Philipsburg to Yorktown: How a Six-Week Encampment Changed the War," Co-sponsored by the Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters and Revolutionary Westchester 250 and presented by Dr. Iris de Rode, a Dutch historian with a unique personal connection to this history. Featured in Ken Burn's American Revolution, Dr. de Rode offers a rare look at the alliance between George Washington and General Rochambeau.

New Tools for a New Year

Greenburgh Public Library continues to expand our Library of Things, offering a wide array of resources that go far beyond traditional media. For those looking to explore the world and the cosmos, we have introduced beginner-friendly travel telescopes, alongside an expanded museum pass collection featuring the reintroduction of the Frick Collection and an additional pass for the Storm King Art Center.

Our technology and digitization services have also seen major upgrades. To help patrons preserve personal history, we launched a VHS conversion service and digital film scanners, while also adding Microsoft 365 software licenses that can be downloaded for home use. For connectivity and diagnostics on the go, the library now offers additional mobile hotspots, Kill A Watt energy monitors, and OBD II scanners for vehicle troubleshooting. These tech updates are complemented by a suite of practical everyday tools, including tire inflators, document shredders, and blood pressure monitors, ensuring the library remains a primary resource for your learning, preservation, and daily health needs.
